Avis L. Schwarzkopf, age 100, of Sheboygan, died peacefully on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at her home. She was born in Lanesboro, Minnesota on October 26, 1921, the daughter of the late Gordon and Clara Skrukrud Larson.
Avis graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1939. She then served in the Red Cross in Germany after World War II, where she met her future husband, Arthur Schwarzkopf. Avis and Arthur where united in marriage in Germany on March 6, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1986.
In her earlier years Avis was a homemaker and full-time care provider for her special needs son, Arthur “Artie”, who passed away in 2004. She was also a nurses aid at St. Nicholas Hospital for many years. Avis was a past member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and engaged in many activities at the church. She enjoyed playing piano for local nursing homes, reading, classic movies and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Avis was also an avid animal lover.
She is survived by her two children, Ava Pack, of Sheboygan, and Paul (Cheryl) Schwarzkopf, of Franklin, WI; four grandchildren, Deborah (Tom) Antonie, of Sheboygan, Carolyn (Ricky) Jadowski, of Cleveland, WI, Kimberly Schwarzkopf, and Brad Schwarzkopf, both of Franklin, WI and many other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son, Artie, and her brother, Arden Larson.
A service for Avis will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, in the Chapel of Eternal Light, 6709 Superior Ave, Town of Sheboygan.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Avis’s name. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff of St. Nicholas Hospital Home Health and Hospice for the compassion and care that was given to her.
