David James Anderson, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, 76, of Manitowoc Wisconsin passed away peacefully on June 14th, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 10th, 1949 in Carroll, Iowa.

David was preceded in death by his parents James and Kathryn Hazel, his brother Mark, his sisters Camilla and Mary Ann. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara Anderson; his son, Matthew (Heather) Anderson; and his daughter, Michelle Anderson. He was a proud and cherished grandfather to Lance, Lucas, and Chloe Anderson, who brought him immense joy.

He is also survived by his brother, Leo; his sisters, Teresa, Julia, Kathryn, and Melinda Marten; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will remember him for his kindness, humility, and strong character.

David proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969, including time stationed in Germany. His military service reflected a lifelong sense of duty and dedication that carried through every aspect of his life.

A proud graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Dave spent his career as a mechanical engineer in power generation, working for Iowa Power, MidAmerican Energy, and Alliant Energy. He took great pride in his work and the role he played in supporting reliable energy for the communities he served.

A man of great ingenuity and enthusiasm, David found joy in cycling, drag racing, and adventure. He competed in ¼ mile drag racing his 1966 Chevy II, affectionately known as “Old Yeller,” for nearly 25 years. Over the course of his racing career, he earned multiple track championships including competing in two different classes simultaneously, a testament to his skill, determination, and competitive spirit.

He and his beloved wife, Barbara, also shared many adventures together, including a memorable journey biking across Ireland—an experience that reflected both his adventurous spirit and the deep bond they shared. He was an accomplished cyclist who completed the challenging “Hotter Than Hell 100” ride in Wichita Falls, Texas riding tandem with Barb three times, as well as finishing El Tour de Tucson multiple times in under 5 hours, demonstrating his determination and love for the sport.

He lived a life defined by service, adventure, and deep commitment to family and community. He was an active and dedicated member of the Early Bird Rotary and the Knights of Columbus, where he formed lasting friendships and contributed his time and talents in service to others.

A lifelong Catholic, Dave was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Wisconsin, where his faith was an important part of his life and values.

Dave will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his unwavering commitment to those he loved, and the legacy of service and integrity he leaves behind. His life touched many, and he will be deeply missed.
