David L. Berenz, age 77, of Sheboygan, died on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls.  He was born in Sheboygan on February 17, 1941, the son of the late Christ and Helen Kempf Berenz.

David attended local schools and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1959.  He then was trained to be a firefighter and joined the City of Sheboygan Fire Department in 1969.  He was an active line firefighter, code enforcement officer, and an arson investigator until his retirement in 2001, after 32 years of service. David was also very active in Sheboygan Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 483 and was a past president for the Union for 14 years.

David was an avid collector. He had an extensive coin collection and model railroad collection. David was a car enthusiast from the time he turned sixteen until his last days. He also loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. He enjoyed grilling on his charcoal grill and eating at local establishments which served his beloved Sheboygan hard roll.

David was proud and pleased with his daughters and their families.  He was also thankful for his older brother, Tom, his only sibling.

Survivors include his two daughters, Christine (Patrick) Keyes, of Brookfield, Angela Miller, of Sheboygan; five grandchildren, Madeline and C.J. Keyes, Lila, Eva and Ella Miller; his brother, Thomas (Venetta) Berenz, of South Carolina and two nieces, Linda (Lou) Weber and Amy Berenz, both of Chicago.  He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for David will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Covenant Church, 1125 N. 6th St., Sheboygan with Rev. Chris McKnight officiating.  Family and friends may gather at the church on Saturday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.

David was a good neighbor and friend. When he moved to Milwaukee, he continually kept in touch. He did come to Sheboygan from time to time and would stay at my house overnight. I will miss his phone calls.

Dave was a well respected member of the SFD. We'll miss you Dave.
