She was born in the family home in Sheboygan Falls, WI to John and Evelyn Prinsen on August 3, 1928. In her late teens she did work at the Woolen Mills and Evanoffs Store. She graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School with the class of 1946.

With the help of her father, John, they built their new home in Sheboygan Falls and lived there for 29 years, making yearly vacation trips to many of the United States and Canada.
When Russel was offered a new job opportunity in North Carolina, a state they had enjoyed on trips, they made the move. They enjoyed 12 years there and shortly after Russel’s retirement, they moved back to Wisconsin to be with family and friends in their later years.
Following Russel’s death, Dorothy took residence at Pine Haven in 2009 and enjoyed music, games and BINGO activities. Religion was important to her and she enjoyed the services they provided there. She loved doing crosswords, jigsaw puzzles and eating dark chocolates.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Faye (Gary) Gerhartz; grandsons, Gavin (Katherin) Gerhartz and Gregory Gerhartz; great-grandsons, Nathan (special friend, Ashley) Gerhartz, Nicholas Gerhartz; family friend, Ken Nagy. She is further survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Luella Hanke-Soerens and all of her in-laws.
There will be no visitation. A private family committal service will be held with Reverend Brad Veenendaal of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls officiating. Interment will take place in the Sheboygan Falls Cemetery next to her husband, Russel.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy had requested memorials be made to Pine Haven Christian Communities, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, and First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dorothy’s caregivers and Reverend Bard Veenendaal for the kindness and compassion given to her.
