Jean Butzen passed away peacefully on January 8, 2023 at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 8 days. She was born on February 1, 1928 to Marvin and Norma (Jabusch) Binder. On May 3, 1952 she married Robert H. Butzen at Trinity Lutheran Church Town of Wilson. Jean attended local schools in Sheboygan. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church Town of Wilson where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and served on the Altar Guild. Jean also belonged to Sheboygan area garden clubs and enjoyed gardening and flower arranging. She loved to bake, and Christmas was her favorite holiday. It was her tradition to bake dozens of cookies and share them with family, friends and neighbors. Jean and Bob raised and showed Quarter Horses and could be found from Florida to Canada. She loved animals big and small, especially her companion cat, Alex. Jean and Bob also loved to travel and spent many wonderful moments as “snow birds” with family and friends in Arizona.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Deborah (William) Gagin of Kohler; step granddaughter, Michelle (Erik) Felde of Austin, TX, Mackenzie and Emma Felde; brother-in-law, Frank (Marlys) Lohr of Sun City West, AZ, Tom (Terri) Lohr of Plymouth, Bill (Kathy) Lohr of Las Cruces, NM, Richard (Jill) Lohr of Sheboygan Falls, Elizabeth Nitsch of Sheboygan Falls, Patricia Brestrich of Sheboygan and Mark Brestrich of Sheboygan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Marvin and Norma Binder; brother, Maxwell Binder; sister, Romona Kramer and nephew, Tobin Kramer.
A celebration of Jean’s life will take place on a later date. A private entombment will take place at the Garden Terrace Mausoleum. Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church Town of Wilson in Jean’s name are appreciated.
The family would like to send their appreciation to Pastor Cota for ministering to Jean. Also, many thanks to the Tender Hearts caregivers for all the support over the last three years, especially Janet, Jane, Joan and Karen.
