Richard Ivan Skowlund, 76, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, Plymouth, WI.

The son of Alan and Elizabeth (Scribner) Skowlund, Rick was born in Keene, NH on March 29, 1945. Following his father’s return from service in WWII, the family moved to Madison, WI, where Rick and his three siblings were raised.

Rick graduated from Madison West High School and then attended UW-Whitewater. His studies were interrupted by his entrance into the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home, he completed his studies and graduated from UW-Whitewater earning a degree in economics.

Rick was no exception in a family that valued education, and he continued to study and learn at every opportunity throughout his life. He enrolled at UW-Madison, earning a degree in business in 1973. While there he met Anne J. Weber and won her heart as they walked together down the college classroom hallways. They married on April 27, 1974, and started careers and a family before moving to Sheboygan, WI in 1982. While Rick began his business career with Oscar Mayer Co. in Madison, he spent most of it in marketing at the Kohler Company.

An enthusiastic volunteer and outdoorsman, he had an unwavering faith and lived life with steadfast integrity. Rick was dedicated to serving his church, First United Lutheran in Sheboygan, and especially enjoyed teaching Confirmation classes and being a member of its Wednesday Morning Work Crew. Rick also appreciated the uniqueness of Wisconsin and helped his children gain a profound respect for nature and the outdoors. He spent countless hours on his woodworking projects while listening to or watching the Badgers, Packers, and Brewers. Not insignificantly, Rick continued to value and pursue his education, receiving an MBA in Finance from UW-Whitewater in 2003, the same year his son, Michael, received his own UW degree.

Rick will be forever loved by his wife, Anne (Weber) Skowlund, Sheboygan; his daughter, Julia (Nathan) Franzene and their children Andrew and Elizabeth, Appleton, WI; and his son, Michael (Jennifer) Skowlund and their children Hailey, Emma, and Luke, Chicago, IL.

He is also survived by his siblings Roger (Fern) Skowlund, Walnut Creek, CA; Barbara (Peter) Nelson, Eau Claire, WI; and Peter (Cynthia) Skowlund, Spokane, WA; his sister-in-law Susan Caldwell, Merrimac, WI; his aunt Gladys Skowlund, Dousman, WI; as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan and Elizabeth Skowlund; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter F. and Emma Weber; his brothers-in-law, Walter J. Weber and Craig Caldwell; and his sister-in-law, Tina Weber.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center for their compassionate care, kindness, and respect for Rick during his stay there.

A Funeral Service will take place at Noon on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 at First United Lutheran Church, 2401 Kohler Memorial Drive, Sheboygan, WI. Visitation will precede the service from 10 AM – Noon at the church.
