“If life is a lesson, I have learned much. Thank you to the medical professionals and all the wonderful people I have met on my life journey. My quality of life was interrupted, only recently, due to metastatic melanoma.”
Wally Meyer was born on October 19, 1946 and passed away on November 13, 2022 at the age of 76. He was united in marriage with Peggy Traas on December 27, 1966 by Rev. Henry Exoo in Sheboygan. Wally proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969 and was stationed in Heilbronn, Germany for two years. During his working years he was employed by the Kohler Company for five years, Johnsonville Sausage for 32 years and Sheboygan Transit/Metro Connection for eight years. Prior to his retirement, Wally was able to quit his addiction with tobacco and replace smoking with healthy life choices. During retirement he enjoyed biking to Blackwolf Run, going to the YMCA, tending his small garden, cooking and grilling his vegetables, participating in the Maywood bike ride and watching the Packers and other sports teams. He loved music and admired harmonica musicians, he even tried to play it himself but never quite “mastered” it! Wally relished watching his grandchildren grow into young adults. He was also one to speak up for himself as well as one to care for the needs of others.
Wally is survived by his wife, Peggy; children, Stephen (Margo) Meyer; Shaunanna Meyer and Tory Meyer; beloved grandchildren, Frances, Libby and Sam Meyer; siblings, Robert (Gail) Meyer, Patricia Verhelst, Terry (Rachel) Meyer and Carol Heinz; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill Gill, Davis (Judy) Traas, Peter (Patti) Traas, Jacqueline Traas, Tina Jacquette (Tad), Joe Traas and Kevin (Lynnette) Traas. He is further survived by caring nieces and nephews, especially Bradley, Erin, Casey and Tracy. Wally is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elsie Meyer; sister, Barb Gill; mother and father-in-law and brother-in-law, Dale Jacquette.
A private family graveside service will be held for Wally at a later date. Memorials to the Sheboygan YMCA, Maywood, Meals on Wheels or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Wally’s name are appreciated.
During my life journey, I tried to be guided by my spirit, not my ego. Now, there must be lights burning brighter, somewhere.
