Donald J. Walter, age 88, of Sheboygan, died on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center in Sheboygan. He was born in Sheboygan on September 18, 1935, the son of the late Frank and Josephine Prisland Walter.
Donald attended local schools and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1954. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country from 1956 to 1967. On September 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Stange in Lawton, Oklahoma.
He was employed at the Kohler Company for thirty years in the pottery division. Donald enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, traveling, and going to the casino.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Walter; three children, Richard Walter, Douglas (Laurie) Walter, and Donna (Tim) Gorter; eight grandchildren, Christine (Nick) Knobel, Matthew Walter, Kathrin Walter, Natalie Walter, Becky (Daniel) Cruz, Andrew (Leesa) Walter, Josh Gorter, and Angie (Zach) Minnich; six great-grandchildren, a brother, Ed Walter; and a sister, Mary (Lowell) Blanke. Many other relatives and friends further survive him. Don was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Frank Walter, and his sister, Marge Ruppel.
In accordance with Donald’s wishes a private memorial service will be held.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff at Aurora Hospital Sheboygan, and the Vince Lombardi Cancer clinic for the compassion and care that was given to Donald.
