Richard Charles Yurk, age 79, of Sheboygan, passed away July 11, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born March 11, 1945, in Sheboygan, a son of the late Christ and Ruth (Goetz) Yurk. Richard attended Sheboygan North High School.
On September 13, 1980, he was united in marriage to Jean Wieser at St. Clement’s Catholic Church. He was employed at Gus Holman Company, a division of Sadoff & Rudoy for 28 years until his retirement in May of 2007.
He enjoyed playing and managing several softball teams including Sheboygan Paper Box, Benjie’s, Dynie’s, Harbor Lights, Toro’s, Sera & Etta’s Teepee, and the Standard Hall over 35 league. He also enjoyed Mens’ and Couples’ miniature and regular bowling.
He was on the Sheboygan Softball Board of Directors for 7 years. Richard was a member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church and the Sheboygan Knights of Columbus Council 722 holding offices of Outer Guard and Chancellor and a member of the Institute. Richard was a member and Purser of the Phillip Dreis 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Moose Lodge #438 of Sheboygan. Richard was a Bucks and Brewers fan, but his passion was the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed going to Packer games both home and away.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Jean; two sons, James (Janet) and Richard of Sheboygan, two daughters Traci (Peter) Carlson of Lanexa, Virginia and Jill (Jeff) Sager of Winter Park, Florida, fifteen grandchildren and a great-grandchild, sisters Barbara Holzer of Sheboygan, Mary (Marvin) Foster of Sheboygan Falls and brother Charles (Wendy) Yurk of Sheboygan. Sisters-In-Law Margarita Yurk, Pat Yurk, and Deb Yurk. He is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Jason, his parents, his mother-in-law & father-in-law, five brothers, Fred, Paul, James, John (Marilyn) & Christian, two sisters, Judy Valente, and Kaye (Bob) King and a brother-in-law, Larry Holzer.
A Mass of Christian burial for Richard will be celebrated on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, 2136 N. 21st Street, Sheboygan. Father Nick Baumgardner will be celebrant. Family and friends may gather at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Gentine, Dr. Bettag, and St. Nicholas Hospital. A memorial has been established in Richard’s name.
