It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Peter Repphun, 78, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, who left us peacefully on February 23, 2025. A man of great warmth and kindness, Gary touched the lives of all who knew him.

Gary was born on January 25, 1947, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the son of Peter F. Repphun and Mary C. Pausha. Gary graduated from North High School in 1965. He joined the U.S. Army in 1966 and served until honorably discharged in 1972. Gary was a loyal public servant of Sheboygan County working in various positions as a Deputy Sheriff, public investigator, and process server.

A man of simple joys, Gary found peace and fulfillment in his favorite hobbies. He was an avid fisherman and loved sharing the joy of a shore lunch and LaBatt Blue with family and friends in Canada. His love for water didn’t stop there – he was an enthusiastic swimmer and spent countless hours swimming miles at the Sheboygan YMCA. Gary never met a free beer he didn’t like and loved to test his luck with lottery tickets and was undeniably lucky when he achieved the perfect cribbage hand in 1971.

One of Gary’s greatest passions was cooking and baking for others. Whether it was his “homemade” cookies, seasonal fish spread, or pickled mushrooms, he shared his creations with everyone around him. He showed his love through food and the warmth of his giving will be remembered fondly by all who received these special deliveries. Gary could always be counted on when someone needed help. Gary strived to live by the principle that you should treat others as you wish to be treated. His generosity and unwavering willingness to lend a hand made him a pillar of support to many.

Gary is survived by his wife, Linda Repphun; children, Peter (Lindsay) Repphun and Andrea (Peter) McCarty; grandchildren, Avery, Olive, and Alair Repphun and Colette and Rex McCarty; stepsiblings, Chris (Brent) Johannes-Kennedy, Billy Johannes, Bob (Mary) Johannes, Julie Johnson; step brother-in-law, Clayton Tess, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Peter F. Repphun and Mary C. Pausha; stepmother, Janis Repphun, and stepsister, Nancy Tess.

When you remember Gary, we hope you’ll remember his gift of gab, laughter, and kind heart. He is resting in peace at the best supper club in heaven with family and friends and he’d like you to raise a drink for him, preferably a whiskey seltzer with mushrooms (not the small ones!) or a vodka martini.

Visitation will be held at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home in Sheboygan on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., with a service to follow at 2 p.m., with Father Paul Fliss officiating. Memorial donations in Gary’s memory may be directed to Compassus Hospice Care in Sheboygan. The family is eternally grateful to them for the comfort and care they provided to Gary in his last days.

People have different ideas of what the purpose of life is. For me, bringing joy to others must be core to the belief. Gary is someone that I remember as being a positive influence on who I am, because he brought joy to others. He was a kind and fun man. He brought joy to others, and that joy will live in through others.

An Early Bird Friend

Gary - I remember fondly the early morning swims - you traveled more miles in the water than anyone else. I remember fondly sitting on the lobby with our Plymouth friends, laughing and occasionally enjoying delicious treats. I remember fondly your returning for a second swim of the day. And I remember fondly laughing with you about the state of politics in our world. Here's hoping you are getting in some early morning laps in the wonderful afterlife.

I also grew up knowing Gary living right next to Pete's bar. Whet to grade school at Holy Name, Urban, and North High with Gary. His passing is so sad but he is in a better place for all of eternity and will greet us all with open arms when we arrive.

Linda and family, I literally have known Gary my entire life. He lived next door to me on Lincoln Avenue. Later, I worked with Gary at the Sheriff's Department. Lastly, I used to visit Gary and bring him Holy Communion in the Hospital. I will miss you, my friend. Rest In Peace ....
