Daniel John Erbstoesser, age 74, passed peacefully on Wednesday September 24, 2025, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice following a brief illness. Dan was born in Sheboygan, WI on September 17, 1951, the son of the late Daniel James and Amelia Joan (Redling) Erbstoesser. He was the third child born into a family of six children which provided a wellspring of a loving, joyful, and strong family environment. A lasting source of comfort and supportive bonds.
A lifelong resident of Sheboygan, Dan didn’t want to live anywhere else. He loved living along Lake Michigan where many happy memories were made. As a curious child, he was always exploring the beach and nearby woods with his siblings, especially Steve, and childhood friends. He loved family gatherings and milestone celebrations, which were frequent, especially when his nephews and nieces were younger. Family was everything. In recent years, he really missed some of those close-knit connections once shared with loved ones due to their life goals and changing priorities, causing them to grow apart and see less of each other. Everyone traveled their own paths in life. He understood that.
Dan had profound hearing loss beginning as a child and later in life he encountered retinitis pigmentosa which led to vision loss. These were hurdles to overcome, not define him. He graciously traversed through life, even though it was tough at times. Determined that nothing would stop him from moving forward and living a full life, he always forged ahead, made friends with everyone he met, and lived a long and fulfilling life.
Daniel also had a supportive network of individuals in our community that took him under their wing and protected him. The family would like to thank each one of you. He appreciated everything that you had done for him. You made his life easier to navigate and feel safe.
We and the Good Lord know who you are!
Daniel attended Longfellow School and was a 1970 graduate of South High School. He toiled diligently for the Kohler Maintenance Department for over twenty years until his early retirement in 1993. Dan had many interests, but his greatest passion was for automobiles. He could tell you anything about any one of them. He was handy around the house, always willing to help when asked, and never shied away from doing things for himself. The allure of adventure was at times so strong that he would ill-advisedly Boldy go where no Dan had gone before! No regrets.
We will miss Dan’s pleasant, kind, gentle, and affable nature along with his smile, laughter, and cordiality that he shared with everyone he met. He was loving, patient, and generous. He believed in positivity and saw the good in all. He never uttered an unkind word toward anyone. He was surely the very best of us.
Daniel is survived by his siblings: Marianna (William) Parramore of Windermere, FL, Leandra (Jack) Walters, Murfreesboro, TN, Steve Erbstoesser and Donna (William) Borzyskowski of Sheboygan, as well as other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister JoanEllen, and a very special niece Danielle.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, no services will be held.
Even though our hearts are broken, we can take comfort in knowing that Daniel was content and satisfied with his life. Loving memories will sustain us.
The family would like to express special thanks to the adept ER staff of St. Nicholas Hospital, the highly skilled and compassionate personnel of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, and also Father Ken.
