With deep love and gratitude, we remember our husband and dad, Russell J. Wiegand, who passed away on February 4, 2026, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, leaving behind a family forever shaped by his presence.
Russ was born in Manitowoc, WI, to Dorothy Markgraf and John Wiegand. He was the youngest of three children. He attended Sheboygan North High School and graduated in 1960.
On April 24, 1971, Russ married Candy. Together, they built a wonderful life, welcoming one daughter and three grandchildren over their 54 years of marriage.
He was a craftsman at heart and paid close attention to detail in everything he did. He owned his own business, Fencing by Wiegand, where he put his craftsmanship and dedication to quality to good use. He was proud of his work and enjoyed meeting the homeowners who had fences installed.
Russ was a man with many interests and hobbies. In his early years, he enjoyed shooting pool and was a league champion in 1966 and 1968. He fulfilled a lifelong dream by earning his pilot’s license, completing his first solo flight on July 11, 1969. He was fond of playing cards and would spend hours doing so with friends. He also found joy in woodworking and sharing the bounties of his craft with everyone he met. He was proud to display some of his work at the Mead Public Library.
He was also a licensed DNR rehabilitator and took in a variety of sick, injured, or abandoned animals. He spent countless hours caring for them to ensure they could be released back into the wild.
Most of all, Russ was known for his stories. He had a way of sharing memories that brought laughter, wisdom, and connection, captivating everyone around him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. While our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the time we shared with him. His stories, his humor, and the lessons he passed on will be carried forward and remembered with both smiles and tears. His legacy lives on — in the things we build, the stories we tell, and the way we care for one another.
Russ is survived by his spouse, Candy; his daughter, Robyn (Robert Olmr); and his grandchildren, Bobby, Mikey, and Ruby Olmr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Ruppel and John Wiegand; his sister, Evelyn Boughten; and his brother, Ralph (Chucky) Wiegand.
Russ’ faith in God helped him through some of his most troubling times. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mapledale Baptist Church in Sheboygan, where a memorial will be established in his name.
