On November 3, 1979, he was united in marriage to Beth Ruehr at Evangelical Free Church in Sheboygan. Richard was employed for over 28 years at Polar Ware Company, until his retirement.
Richard also worked as Pyrotechnician for Bartolotta Fireworks from 1994 to 2005. He enjoyed traveling to attend PGI conventions with Beth in their camper, and sitting around the bonfire.
Richard leaves behind his loving family, which includes his wife, Beth Herren; sons, Mark and Earl Herren, Kristopher Kaun; his daughter, Celia (Jesse) Waraich; grandchildren, Wish (McKenna), Enjay, Cameron, and Shaun Waraich, and Rebecca, Genevieve, and Luther Herren; a sister, Barbara (Carl) Sherbeck; three brothers-in-law, Richard, Paul, and William Ruehr. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends survive. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Marcene Ruehr, and his sisters, Caryl Yahnke and Lorraine Friel. Richard is now reunited with them, as well as the much loved animals he cared for throughout the years.
In accordance with Richard’s wishes, a cremation will take place, with a celebration of life taking place at a later date.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff at Aurora at Home Hospice for the compassion and care that was given to Richard. Memorial donations in Richard’s name may be made to any charity of choice.
