Aaron Robert Mertes, age 88, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025.
Aaron was born on May 18, 1937, to the late Raymond and Elva (Glass) Mertes.
On March 2, 1957, he married Shirley Morgan. She passed on September 16, 2006. Together they had three children and lived in rural Oostburg. On October 6, 2007, he married Shirley (Beeck) Welsch. She passed on April 8, 2025. Together they loved their little dog, Daisy Mae, and lived in Sheboygan and wintered in Tucson, AZ.

Aaron was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Wilson. Over the years he served on various committees and especially enjoyed church remodeling projects. His hobbies included woodworking, playing cards and cribbage, and gardening. He loved going “Up North” to Rollingstone Lake in Pearson, WI. He retired in 2007 from Willman Industries in Cedar Grove and previously had worked for Kingsbury Brewery in Sheboygan until its closing.

Aaron is survived by his three children Tim (Judy) Mertes of Oostburg, Tammy (Jeremy) Boldt of Gibbsville, and Tonya (Dan) DuMez of Sheboygan. Grandchildren Charlene (Kevin Gilster) Mertes, Jason (Bethany) Mertes, Emilio, Lily, and Bobby Boldt. Step-grandchildren Samantha and Travis (Taylor) DuMez, and one greatest grandson Skyelur Mertes.

Aaron is also survived by his step-children Robert (Lisa) Welsch, Tammy (Bryan) Wield, Peggy (Dan) Goosen, Wendy (Tom) Hauch, and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Sister-in-laws Kim Mertes, Kathy Mertes, Betty Meyer, Susie Morgan, Carleen Morgan, and brother-in-law Leo Morgan. And also, Gloria Ehrman, Ronald Beeck, Judy (Jim) Kroinik, Rosie (Dave) Baranczyk, Donald (Andrea) Beeck, Mary (Jerry) Miller, and many, many nieces and nephews. Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Irma (Richard) Janey and Gladys (Earl) Sargent, his brothers Gilbert (Virginia) Mertes, Roland Mertes, Jerome (Louise) Mertes, and Norman Mertes, and his two Shirleys.

A Memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Wilson, 6522 South Business Drive, Sheboygan WI on Monday November 10, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Shane Cota officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Monday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice where he spent his final days and the wonderful staff at Aurora Medical Center where he had been the previous two weeks. And a big special thank-you to his kind neighbors, Wendy, Judy, and Sarah for all the help over the last years.
