Barbara A. “Barb” Jurk, age 89, of Sheboygan, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. She was born in Sheboygan on June 13, 1932, the daughter of the late Robert and Marcella (Rosenthal) Schmitt.
Barb attended local schools and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School. On October 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to Harold R. Jurk. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1991. Barb was employed at Spiller Spring, Larson Plywood, K.W. Muth, and retired for the first time from Lear Corporation in 1994. She then became a greeter at Walmart for another sixteen plus years until her second retirement in 2018.
Barb was a current member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Sheboygan, and she looked forward to the Swiss Steak dinner at church every year. She enjoyed bird watching, shopping, especially with her sister Marlene, crossword and sudoku puzzles, and watching her children and grandchildren’s various sporting activities. Barb loved being a greeter at Walmart for many years, where she continued to develop personal acquaintances with thousands of customers she met. Barb also loved to cook for her family and was known to be the breakfast chef for several of her grandchildren before school in the morning. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and appreciated the precious time spent with them. She was an avid Milwaukee Bucks and Brewer fan, as well as a huge Green Bay Packer fan.
Her four surviving children include: Mark (Kathy Ann) Jurk of Sheboygan, Todd Yurk of Cape Coral, FL., Shari (Bill) Schaefer of Sheboygan, and Jamie (John) Rische of Sheboygan; five grandchildren, Dr. Natasha (Sean) Quadlin, Ellie Schaefer, Caitlin (Karson) Bell, Weston Jurk, and Chelsea Rische. She is further survived by two sister-in-law’s, JoAnn Finley and Mary Jane Schmitt, as well as many special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Henry and Mary (Jurk-Fellinger) Jurk, and step father-in-law Jacob Fellinger, husband Harold, a daughter Lori Jurk, a son Jody Jurk, three brothers, Donald (Loretta) Schmitt, Richard (Shirley) Schmitt, and Thomas “Tommy” Schmitt, and her sister, Marlene (David) Dickmann. She was also preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law’s, Roland (Mickey) Jurk and Doris (Clifford) Huebner.
A memorial service for Barbara will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1248 Lincoln Ave. Sheboygan with Rev. Gregory Whelton officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. A private Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is established in her name.
The family would like to thank the care givers at Shores of Sheboygan, her many doctors and nurses at the Sheboygan Clinic and Sheboygan Aurora Memorial Medical Center, especially Dr. Jill Schmitt, Dr. William Ritt and their entire staffs, and the third floor ICU department.

Words can't express how much I will miss you. Loved that we stayed in touch even after I transferred to the south Walmart. Heaven is surely lucky to have you as we will miss you so much here. To the family....she was a wonderful woman whom could light up the room with just her smile. She always made me laugh even when things were tough. You have my deepest sympathy. She definitely will be missed.

Barb was a wonderful person who was always smiling and there to cheer you up. We loved walking our dogs by her place and missed her when she left the neighborhood. So sorry for your loss. RIP Barb.

Will miss you Barb, you were always a cheerful greeter and loved having conversations with you. I’ll always remember your smiles as I used to work there, but your kindness will not be missed. Send virtual hugs with much love, and sympathy to your family.

Barb, you were the best part of my years in Sheboygan at the Walmart North. Your beauty, infectious smile, caring, just everything about you. You'll be missed by many. To your family, you have my deepest sympathies. I'll never forget you, I still have the letters you sent me once I moved to Menomonie. RIP beautiful lady.
