In Loving Memory of Betty George
Loving wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend, Betty George, 89, of Kohler, WI, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. She was surrounded by her family.
Born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, on May 4, 1935, the daughter of the late George and Helen Drivas, Betty attended Park High School in Racine, WI, graduating in 1953. Over the years, Betty held many positions in the hospitality industry, including Product Consultant at The Kohler Company Design Center. On February 22, 1964, she was united in marriage to James George in Racine, WI. They enjoyed 44 years together until his passing in 2008. Betty raised an incredible family and was a second mother to many.
Betty will be remembered for her deep faith, unconditional love, operatic voice, and creating a welcome reception for anyone. Betty was an active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church through the Philoptochos Society, volunteering for annual Church festivals, and singing in the choir. A master Greek pastry baker, Betty loved making Koulourakia while singing with her grandchildren. Always quick to bring friends together, Betty loved to entertain. Known for her open arms, constant singing, and having a compliment for everyone she met, Betty’s zest for life and dedication to making everyone feel special was unmatched. Her signature closing of letters with X’s and O’s represented her real-life greetings with hugs and kisses.
Betty is survived by her son, David (Holly) George, of Ashland, WI and Fort Myers, FL, and daughter, Christina (Jeff) Lilla, of Hummelstown, PA and Kohler, WI. “Yia Yia” is also survived by her grandchildren, Ferron (Angie), Thomas, David, James (“Mack”), Niko, Elena, and Arianna, and great grandchildren, Maryska, Layla and Timothy. Betty is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James George, and brother, John Drivas. Betty’s family thanks the caregivers at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA, for their professionalism and loving support.
