Bonita (Bonnie) Doyle, age 80, of Sheboygan, died from the effects of cancer on Monday, October 23, 2023, at her home, attended by her son David, and comforted in the loving arms of her husband, Jerry. Bonnie was born on June 30, 1943, in Sheboygan. Her parents were Orville and Kathryn Faye (Severance) Schilling of Sheboygan.
Bonnie was a graduate of Sheboygan South High School in 1961. She attended a four-year nursing program in Milwaukee and obtained a college degree as a registered nurse. She was employed at both St. Nicholas Hospital and Sheboygan Memorial Hospital, primarily as a surgical nurse. She married Gerald Olshanski, and they had two children, David, and Amanda. They frequently took month-long camping trips to national parks across the country. Bonnie was a caring mother, ready and willing to join in and share the excitement of the activities the children were doing. Gerald Olshanski tragically drowned in the Sheboygan River in 1986.
Bonnie later met Jerry Doyle, whose wife, Phyllis Harms Doyle, had died unexpectedly in 1984. Jerry was the father of two daughters, Brenda, and Marcia. Jerry and Bonnie were married on July 8, 1988, at First United Lutheran Church, Sheboygan. Bonnie had numerous interests. She was involved in regional doll clubs and collected antique dolls. Some of the valuable dolls were donated to help charitable fundraisers. Quilting came to be her favorite hobby, and she made quilts for family, camo-quilts for military troops in Iraq, and lap quilts and shawls for nursing home residents.
She was active in the Sheboygan County Quilt Guild and a three-time president. One of her most meaningful activities was to give emotional and financial support to inmates struggling with drug dependencies. This led to her serving on the chaplaincy board for the Sheboygan County Detention Center. She was a generous financial supporter of community organizations helping with social problems.
Of great importance to her was her involvement with church groups such as Bible studies, prayer groups, and church committees. Bonnie was family-oriented and especially loved her five grandsons. Family members met regularly on Sunday nights on a Zoom call. The loss to the family of her love cannot be described by words.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville, and Kathryn Schilling and her first husband, Gerald Olshanski. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Jerry Doyle, of Sheboygan, son David (Susan) Olshanski of Minneapolis, MN and their two children, George, and Gordon Olshanski, both of Minneapolis, and daughter Amanda Jane of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by other family members through marriage, a stepdaughter, Brenda (Chris) Carpentier, Boise, ID and step-grandson Philip Carpentier, Boise, ID, and stepdaughter Marcia (Dale, friend) Johnson, Milwaukee, WI, step-grandsons, Benjamin, Milwaukee, WI, and Nicholas Johnson, Eau Claire, WI. Bonnie gave her love generously to her family gained through marriage, and she became their accepted and beloved mother and grandmother.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00a.m. at Fountain Park Global Methodist Church, 1115 N. 9th Street, Sheboygan with Pastor Warren Waddell officiating. A private burial service will be held at the cemetery following the service. Family and friends may gather at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials in Bonnie’s name can be given to First United Lutheran Church, Fountain Park Global Methodist Church, or a recipient of your choice.
