Carol M. Champeau, age 83, of Sheboygan, died on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, surrounded by her family. She was born in Sheboygan on March 7, 1937, the daughter of the late Marvin and Eleanor (Baumgartner) Gandre.
Carol attended local schools and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School. On January 19, 1957 she was united in marriage to Dick Champeau in Sheboygan. Carol had her own child day care business, “Carol’s Day Care” which she ran out of her home for 36 years. She was always known as Grandma Carol to everyone.
She loved to spend time with her family, listen and dance to II Cool, riding the saddle at Texas Roadhouse and she adored her cats. Carol also enjoyed feeding her squirrels and birds.
Survivors include her six children, Thomas (Gloria) Champeau, of Sheboygan, Cathy (Dan) Taubenheim, of Oconomowoc, Jim (Cheryl) Champeau, Mike Champeau, Mark (fiancée’ Jody) Champeau, and Joe (Carla) Champeau, all of Sheboygan; sixteen grandchildren, Gloriane, Ricky, Chico, Crystal, Tracy, Tim, Matt, Joni, Lisa, Jordan, Taylor, Gavin, Dylan, Katie, Michelle and Zachary. Carol is also survived by her many great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, a sister, Marilyn Sitzman, of Hartford and her cats, Spooky and Peaches. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends further survive. Her parents, son, Rick Champeau, a great grandchild and a great great-grandchild, brother, Wayne Gandre, a brother-in-law, Bob Sitzman, and her former husband, Dick Champeau, all have preceded Carol in death.
A funeral service for Carol will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan with Rev. Adam L. Scheblein officiating. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Please practice social distancing and a facial covering will be required for the visitation and funeral.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center for the compassion and care that was given to her.
