Caroline A. (Hurtienne) Swanson was born on May 30, 1936, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to Leroy Sr. and Anna (Jansohn) Hurtienne. Caroline attended Sheridan Elementary School and Central High School and graduated in the class of 1954. On May 14, 1955, Caroline married the love of her life, Richard Swanson from Northwood, North Dakota, and the two remained married until death his death in December of 2020 and had 65 wonderful years together.
Throughout the years, Caroline worked at Zimmerman Jewelry Store; waitressed at the old Johnnie’s Supper Club; and was a secretary for special needs children at the old Longfellow Elementary School, at St. John’s UCC, and at the American Red Cross. Caroline was a lifelong member of St. John’s UCC and when her kids were smaller, she taught Sunday school at church and sang in the choir. She was always baking and enjoyed doing so for her kids’ fundraisers and was famous for making “long johns.” She also enjoyed doing crafting and sewing, camping and fishing, and she especially liked to travel with Rick. Their most memorable trip was when they retired and started their retirement with a 3-month trip that culminated in Alaska. She always said she could have kept on traveling the United States and exploring.
Caroline is survived by two of her children, David (Deb) and Sandra (John) Madson of Sheboygan; her three grandchildren, Diana Rouse of Green Bay, Tina Lacey of Green Bay, and Andrea Madson of Sheboygan; three great grandchildren, Kristen (Oscar) Rodriguez, Trevor Rouse, and Megan Denman; and one great-great granddaughter, Adaliya.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; oldest daughter, Carol Kasper, who passed away in 2004; her parents, Leroy, Sr., and Anna Hurtienne; her parents-in-law, Oscar and Marie Swanson; her brother, Leroy Hurtienne, Jr.; and sisters-in-law, Merrie Ann (Hurtienne) Pankratz and Crystal Swanson. She was also preceded in death by many special friends (especially Joyce and Jim Creech) and relatives.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th St., Sheboygan, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 3:30 p.m.

Aunty Caroline (was was not really my Aunt, but we adopted as Aunty due to being my Mother’s best friend). We grew up with Aunty Caroline, Uncle Rick and the family since I was born. We did a lot of family activities together. Aunty Caroline, Uncle Rick, my Dad and Mom were always together. Although Aunty Caroline will be missed, she is now in heaven not only with her husband, but with her best friends. Rest In Peace Aunty Caroline. Love you!

Caroline and Rick were my childhood neighbors at a time when your neighbors looked out for the children in the neighborhood. She inspired a wonderful sense of community by hosting an annual neighborhood block party. Caroline was a dynamic, kind, and caring woman of whom I will always have fond memories.
