Caroline Shircel went home to her Lord and Savior on December 1, 2023, at the age of 93. She was born March 13, 1930, in Aitkin, Minnesota, the daughter of the late August and Catherine (Tholen) Beneke.
On June 16,1951 she was united in marriage to Methodius (Toddy) Shircel at St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin, MN. She was the proud adoptive mother of three children, Daniel, Jeffrey and Judith who were the joy of her life. In addition to raising her children, Caroline was employed at Lakeland Manufacturing Company for nine years and the Sheboygan Transit for eighteen years, retiring in 1995.
She was a faithful member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. She greatly enjoyed being a member of both the Christian Mothers Society and the Ministers of Care program and regularly helped at the food pantry She also was a wonderful baker and was well known for her delicious apple strudel, Potica and Christmas cookies. Of all her interests, her love of family came first, and she treasured being a part of both the Beneke and Shircel families. Staying connected with her siblings, in-laws, nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces was a priority in her life.
Surviving her is her son, Jeffrey (Diana) Shircel of Sheboygan Falls, her daughter, Judith (Henry) Hummel of Brookfield, and her grandchildren, Amira Shircel, Gaten Shircel, and Mitchell, Madison and Haley Hummel whom she loved very much. She came from a family of thirteen children and is survived by her siblings, Mildred Wassen, Lillian Richardson and Harold (Delores) Beneke. Caroline is preceded in death by her husband, Methodius; her son, Daniel, seven sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1439 S. 12th St., Sheboygan, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the loving staff at Pine Haven Christian Communities and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their outstanding care of Caroline. Pine Haven was her home for the final five years of her life and the entire staff of nurses, CNA’s, Activity Directors, Dining and Housekeeping all treated her just like their own grandmother. Because of this, a donation to Pine Haven Christian Communities would be greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers.
