Caroline “Red” D. Mertzig

Caroline “Red” D. Mertzig, age 77, of Fredonia, died on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at her home. She was born on May 31, 1946, the daughter of the late Raymond and Loretta Dimmer Nothem.
Caroline attended local schools in the Port Washington area. She was employed at Simplicity, Tecumseh, and Vollrath Manufacturing in Sheboygan. Caroline also was a bartender a numerous places in and around Sheboygan. She enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles, watching television, bonfires, garage sales, thrifting, and collecting antiques. Caroline also liked to spend time with her family and her beloved animals.
Survivors include her three children, TinaMarie (Christopher) Olig, of Fredonia, Guy (Angela) Mertzig, and Danielle Mertzig (special friend Gene Trimberger), all of Sheboygan; seven grandchildren, Haley Olig, Jacob Olig, Robert McGillisJr, Stephanie McGillis, Cole McGillis, Veronica Norton, and Nicholas Mertzig, and three great grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends further survive. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service for Caroline will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan, with Chaplin Steve Cornelius Officiating. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m.
A heart felt thank you is extended to Compassus Hospice, Tracy “The Granny Nanny” Ostrander, and special friends, Jeff and Jodi Smith, for the loving, compassionate care given to “Red” during this time. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Caroline’s name. Online condolences may be expressed at www.reinboldfh.com
