My mother, Charlotte, had a magical life, with some of it tragic, but a good life for 94 years. She battled cancer for a few years and then was called home by her Savior on May 7, 2022.

Mom was a lifelong member of St. Peter Claver Parish, being baptized, educated, made first communion, confirmed, married and now buried in the church parish she supported and loved. Mass was almost a daily occurrence, until she could not drive and then the pandemic forced her to watch Mass on television. Praying the rosary was also a daily pleasure. A rosary could be found in her pocket at all times.

Mom was the first born to George and Ida Hiebing and the big sister to her three brothers. Living with the boys made her the strong and loving person she was til the end. Mom was born at home on April 14th, 1928, during a major snowstorm, which the doctor did not want to venture into. This may explain why mom liked shoveling snow.

My mom met the love of her life, Charles, at a local dance. The strong German girl and the firstborn son of immigrants from Slovenia, made quite a pair and were married on June 25, 1949, that lasted for 50 years.

Charlotte had various jobs as a young woman but found her most satisfying job as the “lunch lady” at Jackson and Sheridan schools. It was a job that lasted more than 30 years. Mom also had a more than 30-year volunteer job as a sorter at St. Vincent de Paul a few days a week.

Mom loved to knit, cross-stitch, watch the soaps, and did a little quilting. She loved breaded chicken, goulash, my father’s chili, a good fish fry, a cold beer or an old fashioned, and Charcoal Inn hamburgers with onions. Mom claimed she was not a good cook but I had no complaints. Mom and Dad enjoyed their time at their trailer in Northern Wisconsin for more than 40 years. It was always a special time when they hosted “Christmas in July” with members of the Hi Ho Club. Music, games, presents and maybe some live theater or poems written by my Dad. There also may have been some drinking involved. Laughter and smiles were the order of the day.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on January 26, 2000, her parents, George and Ida, brothers John and Fredrick, brother-in-law Robert, sisters-in-law June and Shirley, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Carl and Mary Kovacic.

Mother is survived by her only son Mark (Barb), brother Tom (Betty), sister-in law Ceil, her close friend Bev Sorenson and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends may gather at St. Peter Calver Catholic Church, 1439 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan on Friday, May 13, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Paul Fliss will officiate. Entombment will take place at the Holy Cross Mausoleum.

A wonderful woman Charlotte was. She always enjoyed life and made people around her laugh. I remember coming to me years ago to get hair done and one thing she gave me was a angel pin. I will wear in her memory always. You hit it with her obituary and loved the way you had written her life.

So sorry to hear of Charlotte's passing. We just found out now, or we would have come to her service. She was a kind and fun person to be around. I worked with Charlie at the Police Dept. and the love they had for each other was always evident. Together again.
