David Zoch, age 82 of Sheboygan passed away Monday morning October 17, 2022. David was born April 7, 1940, in Green Bay to the late Anthony and Rita (Lockwood) Zoch. David married Mary Ann Irish on August 7, 1965, at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Laona.
David attended St. Matthews Elementary School in Allouez prior to graduating from Central Catholic High School-Premontre High School. He then furthered his education at the Catholic Seminary in Oneida Wisconsin and St. Norbert College in De Pere.
David was a loving husband and father. He took great pride in all aspects of the lives of his six children. He especially enjoyed hearing about the antics and achievements of his grandchildren and great grandchild. He was enthralled with his youngest grandchild, Annie, who was born as his life neared its end. He and Annie spent precious time smiling at each other.
Moving to Sheboygan from Green Bay, David worked in various departments of Citizens Bank. Later he worked in Data Processing and Customer Service for First Interstate Bank. After leaving the banking world he partnered with Jodi Engelhardt in opening TEAMWORK, a business which secured employment for developmentally disabled adults and subsequently provided them job support.
Upon retirement he began a full-time job of feeding birds and fighting the squirrel population (unsuccessfully) in his backyard.
He also spent many hours reading, researching and TV watching documentaries about our Native American ancestors and their culture. He was very passionate about this historical movement.
David always loved music. He played wind instruments in high school and college. At St. Norbert College, much to his surprise, he found his fine tenor voice and was a very capable comedic actor, singing and joking in many musical theater productions at St. Norbert College and in Music Theater in Green Bay. He taught choral music at Premontre High School in Green Bay for one year.
In Sheboygan he sang in choirs at Holy Name of Jesus Church and St. Peter Claver Church and occasionally directed those groups. He also directed the choir at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in the early 1970s.
He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and began attending all the home games with his buddies long before the first Super Bowl. He held season tickets until recently when his health made him a boisterous TV game day fan. Go Pack!!!
David is survived by his wife Mary Ann, sister Mary (Jerome) Pluger, brother Glenn R. Zoch, children: Christopher R. Zoch, Matthew M. Zoch, Nathan (Barbara) Zoch, Rebecca (Milo) Weiss, Leah (Scott) Gruenke, Benjamin J. (Elizabeth) Zoch grandchildren: Alexandria Zoch, Justin Bricco, Jacob Baxter, Madelyn and Carter Weiss, Logan and Kendall Gruenke, Lenora and Annette Zoch and a great-granddaughter Destini Wolfe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles Carleton and Jeanne Vandenbusch, Norbert and Dolores Soletski, Sister Paul Francis Zoch and dear friends Jim Borman, Dallas Enz, Jim Jorgensen and Arnold Rasmussen.
Family and friends may gather at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1439 S 12th Street Sheboygan on Saturday October 22, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Paul Fliss will officiate.
David’s family wishes to recognize the efforts of Dr. H. Marshall Matthews and the staff of Matthews Oncology Associates for accompanying David on his cancer journey. We would also like recognize Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their care that provided him end-of-life comfort and peace. Special thank you to St. Peter Claver Catholic Parish, especially Fr. Paul Fliss for celebrating with him on his spiritual journey.
In lieu of flowers, support of a Native American Charity or any charity dear to your hearts would be appreciated.
