Denise S. Glavan, age 81, of Sheboygan, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Aurora Sheboygan Medical Center. She was born in Joliet, IL, on October 20, 1941, the daughter of the late Augustine and Francis Kraker Batis.
She attended St. Francis High School in Joliet IL, graduating in 1959. Denise furthered her education at Northern Illinois University, earning a BS degree in Education. On August 29, 1964, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, James Glavan in Joliet, IL.
Dennie Sue, as her friends and family knew her, was a teacher in the Joliet Public School District. After giving birth to twins less than a year after their daughter was born, Dennie Sue stayed at home to raise their children and became a homemaker. After moving to Wisconsin, she and her husband James became the owners of Save Way Liquor in Sheboygan Falls in 1976. She managed the store for 25 years until they sold it in 2001. Dennie Sue was also a substitute teacher in the Sheboygan Area School District as time permitted.
Dennie Sue was a very compassionate person with a huge heart. She was very active in her children’s school, assisting with hot lunch, chaperoning many field trips, helping run science fairs, and was a den mother for the cub scouts. Dennie Sue was a long-time fan of public television and was a volunteer at the Channel 10 auction for many years. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, macrame, needlepoint, and reading romance novels. Most of all, Dennie Sue loved spending time with her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren.
Survivors include four children, Kathleen Glavan, James (Lynn) Glavan, both of Sheboygan, Jeffrey (Moira) Glavan, of Arizona, and Susan (Shawn) Theune, of Oostburg; seven grandchildren, Jaidan, Annika, and Davis Glavan, Brendan (Alicia) Sperandio, Kyle Sperandio, Ellissa and Aubree Theune. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jim.
Per Denise’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service. She requested a private celebration of life for family, which will be held at a later date.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff of Sheboygan Senior Community and the doctors and nurses at Aurora Sheboygan Medical Center and Hospice for the compassion and care that was given to Dennie Sue and her family. Additionally, the family is extremely grateful to countless friends and family for their kindness and support throughout her life as she had many health setbacks.
Dennie Sue and Jim are once again united. A true love story. She will forever be missed.
