Doris Mae Zallar, 94, of Sheboygan, was received into the arms of her loving Lord when she passed away October 25th, 2024, at Sheboygan Senior Community, where she had resided for the past 4 years. She was born in Sheboygan July 24th, 1930, to the late William and Laura (Steinpas) Damrow. She attended local schools and graduated from North High School with the class of 1947.
On November 22nd, 1947, she was united in marriage to Frank Zallar at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. Frank preceded her in death on June 1st, 2017, shortly prior to their 70th wedding anniversary. Besides raising her 3 children, Steven, Cindy and Tim, Doris was employed at the Kohler Company for numerous years. She retired from Sheboygan Transit as a city bus driver in 1993, making many friends as she transported them throughout the city. In 2005, Frank suffered a stroke which promoted Mom to caregiver and chauffeur. She handled both jobs with determination, a strong will and without complaint. An inspiration to all of us in handling a difficult situation.
Doris was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 9156.
In her younger years, she enjoyed numerous camping trips with the family to Long Lake State Park. Later, NASCAR and the Packers and travelling with Frank gave her much enjoyment. Most recently, feeding the birds and watching them from her window at SSC kept her entertained, especially the daily Sandhill crane visits.
She is survived by her children; Cindy Zallar of Sheboygan, Steven (Patricia) Zallar of Madison, Wl, and Tim (Linda) Zallar of Sheboygan, grandchildren Kari Roethel (Steven) and Andrew Zallar. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will be missed by her dining room tablemates and friends at SSC and by the staff who assisted her.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank, and three sisters and their spouses Lucille (Phillip) Lobes, LaVeme (Oscar) Albertin and Norma (Clarence) Brown.
Per Doris’s wishes, a private family burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Kohler.
Memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in her name.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to Sheboygan Senior Community for their care and compassion for Mom while residing there. A great facility with the best staff.
“You were a light in our lives that will burn forever in our hearts”
