Dorothy Grimmer

Dorothy Grimmer, age 93, passed peacefully at Meadow View Nursing Home in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to be with her Lord and Savior on January 5, 2024. She was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on August 30, 1930 to the late Cornelius and Elizabeth (Kossman) Schaefer. Dorothy attended Jefferson School and graduated from North High School in Sheboygan. In her younger years, she was involved with the Girl Scouts and later worked at the Majestic Theater and Hand Knit. Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Peter Grimmer, on August 1, 1953 at Immanuel Evangelical Congregational Church. They were married for 55 1/2 years. While attending Immanuel Evangelical Congregational Church, Dorothy sang in the choir. Later she became a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Dorothy dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed being with her loved ones, playing and taking care of the pets of family and friends. Her other interests included reading, embroidery, cooking, swimming, listening to country music, and writing letters.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Debbie (Ken) Smith of Marietta, Georgia, and Diane (Darrel) Dettmann of Eagan, Minnesota. She is also survived by three grandchildren David (Melissa) Maxwell of Huntsville, Alabama, Brian Maxwell of Cleveland, Georgia, and Elizabeth Dettmann of Eagan, Minnesota.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her spouse, Peter Grimmer; her parents, Cornelius and Elizabeth Schaefer; two brothers and spouses John (Bea) Schaefer, Henry (Beverly) Schaefer and four sisters and spouses Emma (Howard) Miller, Frieda (Bill) Hernke, Esther (Andy) Casady, and Ruth (Jerry) Leonhardt.
Funeral arrangements and services are being provided by Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home in Sheboygan. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th St., Sheboygan, with visitation from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Dorothy’s family would like to thank the hospice staff of Sharon Richardson and the staff at Meadow View for their compassionate care of Dorothy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sheboygan Humane Society as a tribute to Dorothy’s love and care for animals. Dorothy will always be remembered for her love of family and life. She started each day with purpose and will be deeply missed.
