Earl K. Beck, age 89, of Sheboygan, passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 11, 2021, with his beloved wife by his side.
He was born in Chicago, II on Sept. 19,1932, the son of Tony and Bertha (Knudson) Beck. He attended public schools in Chicago, graduating from Sullivan High School in 1950. He then attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in 1954.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1959 attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Three of the five years in service were with NATO Land Forces in France and Germany. After his honorable discharge, he managed a Pacific Finance Company in Manitowoc, where he met his wife, the former Betty Gruber and they were united in marriage on June 3, 1961 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Manitowoc.
In June of 1963, he accepted a position with Sheboygan County Welfare Dept, (now the Dept. of Health and Human Services). He remained employed with the county until his retirement in January 1990 as supervisor of the Alternate Care Unit. After retirement, he was employed part time with the Advocacy Program of Family Services. He was on the Board of Directors of the Rehabilitation Center of Sheboygan for 24 years and also previously a member of the Board of Directors of Friendship House.
Earl was a long-time member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. In retirement he volunteered at the Saint Vincent de Paul thrift store and also at the Northside Food Pantry.
Earl and his family traveled extensively throughout the United States. He and Betty traveled to numerous countries throughout the world. Some of his favorites were the Pyramids, the Taj Mahal, the Holy Land, the Great Wall of China, and an African Safari. He also enjoyed the quiet countryside of Ireland.
When not traveling, he enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren, attending as many school and sporting events as possible.
Earl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; one son, Brian (Jenna) Melbourne, FL; two daughters, Ann Reinbacher, Kohler, and Paula (Steve) Kisiolek, Sheboygan Falls; eleven grandchildren, Rachel, Eric, Katie, Emily, Luke, Elyse, Jacob, Adam, Erin, Nicholas, and Ellie. Four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Evan, Leo, and Charlie. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vern and sons-in-law, Kerry Miller and Steven Reinbacher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 818 Huron Ave. Sheboygan with Father Norberto Sandoval officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in the Town of Sheboygan with VFW Post 9156 providing full military honors.
Memorials in Earl’s name may be directed to the Sheboygan North Food Pantry and St. Vincent DePaul. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the EMT’s and first responders for their help and assistance.
