Evelyn M. Leick, age 98, of Sheboygan, died on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at her home. She was born in the Town of Sheboygan on May 4, 1922, the daughter of the late John and Mildred Koerner Goell.
Evelyn attended a one room schoolhouse in the Town of Wilson. She attended Sheboygan Central High School. On June 29, 1940 she was united in marriage to Peter L. Ries at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in May of 1972. She was employed at Leverenz Shoe Company as a sales secretary until her retirement in 1986. She married Leo V. Leick on July 18, 1986 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Leo preceded her in death in September of 2003.
Evelyn was a current member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a longtime volunteer at St Vincent de Paul. She enjoyed gardening, baking, spending time with family, playing cards with family and friends, and feeding her squirrel friends who visited her deck every day.
Survivors include her four sons, Peter Ries, of Lansing, MI, Michael (Sandra) Ries, of Sheboygan, Patrick (Rebecca) Ries, of Mt. Calvary, Thomas (Marilyn) Ries, of Sheboygan. She is also survived by stepsons, Lee (Nancy) Leick of Suamico, Wisconsin and Thomas (Jamie) Leick of Naples, Florida. Also survived by twelve grandchildren, several step grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, several step-great grandchildren, and several step-great, great grandchildren. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, her sister Jeanette Gartmann, and numerous brothers-in-laws and sisters-in laws.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at Immaculate -Conception Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held later in 2021.
The family wants to thank the loving caregivers from Companion Care and Aurora Home Hospice. Their friendship, love, and compassion were very important in helping Evelyn through her last months.
Memorials can be made to the St Vincent de Paul Society in her name.
