Frederick “Fred” Holstein

Frederick “Fred” Raymond Holstein was born March 14, 1941, in Milwaukee, WI to Raymond & Lorene (Loyster) Holstein. He graduated from Cedarburg High School and joined the Navy in 1959 serving 3 1/2 years at the U.S. Naval Hospital at Camp LeJeune, NC as a Navy Corpsman where he met and married his wife of 61 years, Joyce Downs Holstein. After his discharge, he served an apprenticeship as a Tool and Die Maker and worked in that industry for 35 years at various shops. He then became a licensed Insurance Agent for Aim Insurance Group in Sheboygan for approximately 10 years.
Fred was taught piano by his mother and loved music. He switched from piano to guitar and was the guitarist and lead singer for local bands before helping to start a band (Revival) with his good friend Homer Justman. He also sang for several years with the Pine Haven Men’s Chorus and the Concordia Singing Society.
He was an avid firearms and history enthusiastic acquiring many trophies for Trap Shooting and was a Firearms Safety Instructor.
Fred was a member of Fountain Park United Methodist Church, a member of the church choir and served on several church committees. He was also a member of Cassia Masonic Lodge in Plymouth, Loyalty #118 Order of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Knights Templar of Wisconsin serving in several offices of each organization.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughters Rene’ (Chris) Puetz of Cascade and Lorene (Kevin) Pfeifer of Sheboygan and son Gregory (Connie Meier) Holstein. He is further survived by 9 grandchildren: Jonathan (Samantha) Puetz and their children, Reilly, Owen and Emilyn, Rachele (Adam) Beltran and her daughter Elayna, Sadie, Kaden and Avery Beltran, Mark Loberger and his daughter Rylyn, Kaylie (Brian) Kotlowski and son Carson, Alicia (John) Strahl and their son Michael, Joshua (Trish) Holstein and children Isabel Holstein and Stephen Goetz, Alexandria (Jaymeson) Trempe, Aaron (Kylie Unterhager) Holstein, Phil Koepke and Sydney, a brother Ted Holstein of Washington state and other relatives.
Fred was preceded in death by his daughter Riki Koepke, his great grandson Kaleb, his parents, grandparents, his father and mother-in-law Major and Beatrice Downs, brother-in-law Randall Downs and other relatives.
Per his request, Fred will be cremated. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Fountain Park UMC, St. Nicholas or Richardson Hospice, Sheboygan County Cancer Society or Safe Harbor.
A Memorial service will be held at Fountain Park UMC located @ 828 Erie Ave., Sheboygan on Saturday May 14, 2022 following visitation from 11:00 am until 1:45pm. Rev. Warren Waddell will officiate.
