James J. Nora Sr., M.D. age 94 of Sheboygan formerly of Denver, CO passed away Tuesday January 10, 2023. James was born June 26, 1928, in Chicago, IL to the late Joseph J. and Henrietta M. (Jackson) Nora. He proudly served his country in the Philippines during WWII in the Army Air Corp. On April 9, 1966, James was united in marriage to Audrey Hart M.D. at the West University Baptist Church in Houston, TX.
James had 50 years of experience in medicine and academia. He holds a BA from Harvard University, MD from Yale University and MPH from the University of California Berkeley. James was a pioneer in heart transplantation (late 1960’s) while at the Texas Medical Center in Houston. He was a prolific writer, authoring 153 research articles, textbooks and medical journals. He was a physician, writer and professor of genetics.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years Audrey Hart Nora M.D., children Wendy, Penny, Marianne, Jim Jr., Elizabeth, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two sisters Ruth and Louise. James was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lonnie.
Family and friends may gather at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan on Friday January 13, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon. VFW Post #9156 will accord military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in James’ name to a homeless shelter or charity of your choice.
