James “Jim” Murphy passed away on March 25th at St. Luke’s Medical Center from a massive stroke. He was born to Vincent and Marcella (Diny) Murphy on December 22, 1951, in Oshkosh. Jim attended Winneconne Grade schools while living on the family farm. His family moved to Oshkosh in 1970, and he graduated from Lourdes High School in 1970. He received his bachelor’s degree in Math/Computer Science in 1974 from UW-Oshkosh. Jim worked at Kohler Company as a Systems Manager for nearly 45 years prior to retiring.
Jim enjoyed sports both watching and participating. In his younger years, he played in several basketball leagues in the Sheboygan Rec League as well as the Kohler Co. League. He coached both girls’ and boys’ basketball teams in the rec leagues as well as the Redwing Select team. Jim also was passionate about golf and participated in several leagues at T&C. He enjoyed going to church and attending Bible studies.
On April 22, 1978, he married Clara Erickson, and their marriage was blessed with his daughters, Angela (Jim) Schumacher and Jessica (Scott) Mueller. Becoming a grandfather to Mason and Riley Mueller was his favorite role in life. He is also survived by his brother Mike (Mary) Murphy, Sister-in-law Svea (Glenn) Olson, and nephews and nieces on both sides of the family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Marcella (Diny) Murphy, Oshkosh, and his wife’s parents, Roy and Adeline (Drees) Erickson, Peshtigo.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church located at 730 County Rd. PPP, Sheboygan Falls, on Saturday, March 29, with visitation from 2 to 4 PM. The church service will follow at 4 PM. A gathering in the fellowship hall will occur after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, The Gathering Place (a day program for individuals with memory loss), Samaritan’s Purse, or a charity of your choice.
Special thanks are given to the doctors and nurse teams that cared for him at St. Luke’s Medical Center Neuro ICU in Milwaukee as well as the team at Aurora Sheboygan that prepped him for the Flight for Life.
