James J. Landgraf, 91, of Sheboygan passed away peacefully on January 22, 2023, at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice Community, Sheboygan Falls.

Jim was born on January 3, 1932, in Sheboygan, WI to the late Albert and Marie (Bersch) Landgraf.

Jim graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1950. He studied accounting by mail, and worked in finance-related roles at J.J. Koepsell Company for 45 years.

Jim was united in marriage to Mary G. Anhalt on May 16, 1953, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Plymouth, WI, his wife of 65 years. Jim was an active and faithful member of St. Peter Claver Parish, and served on the Parish Council, as a catechist, as well as on the “Buck the Bug Committee.”’

Jim was active in the Lakeshore Kiwanis Club for many years, and served as President. He was a “Chess Nut,” a chess enthusiast. He taught himself how to play by reading Encyclopedia Britannica, and then taught his daughter, Linda, how to play. Even in his last days, he played “chess by email” with a long-time friendly competitor.
.
Jim’s quick wit and sense of humor could bring contagious laughter that only increased when you listened closely to what he said. His daily routine included reading the newspaper, which included sharing information from articles he read, with a slight modification of the content. Verification was often needed to ensure he wasn’t pulling your leg.

Jim is survived by his daughter: Linda (Rev. Jerome) Molitor of Belgium; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Jennifer (Nicholas) Whitford, and their children, Eowyn and Lochlan of Sheboygan, Paul (Brandi) Molitor and their children, Stewart and Jae Speer, and Sonja and Will Shingleton of Fond du Lac; sister-in-law Frances Landgraf of Sheboygan, and other family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Mary, an infant son and infant daughter, his parents and his siblings, Kathleen (John) McCollins, Kenneth Landgraf, Marilyn (Kenneth) Kerber, and Carl Landgraf.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023, at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1439 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan. Visitation will precede Mass from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. Fr. Subi Thomas will officiate. A burial service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family thanks the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for their compassion, service, dedication, and loving care. They are truly angels among us!

A memorial fund has been established for Sharon S. Richardson Hospice in Jim’s name.
