Jerry Michael Smith, 84, of Sheboygan, WI and formerly of Willmar, MN was welcomed into his heavenly home on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Jerry will be remembered for his strong faith in the Lord Jesus and his unwavering love and commitment to his family. He was born in Beresford, SD to Robert and Mary Smith on May 24, 1939 and graduated from Huron High School in 1957. He served in the National Guard and the United States Army and later graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Sioux Falls College in 1964. He later graduated with a Master’s Degree from Mankato State University in 1974.
Jerry married Carla Bjerke on November 29, 1963 in Sioux Falls, SD. His career included teaching high school and counseling for Iowa State Social Services. During this time he was Director of Social Services for the Omaha Indian tribe in Macy, NE. He also worked for Youth for Christ as a youth guidance counselor. He retired from Minnesota Health and Human Services in Willmar, MN in 2001. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling and camping.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Carla; daughter, Janis (Mark) Brunn; sons, Michael and Steven Smith; 8 grandchildren, Rachel Brunn, Paul Brunn, Silas (Erin) Brunn, Mary Brunn, Caden (Jill) Smith, Bennet Smith, Sawyer Smith and Malia Smith; sister, Janis Eddy; nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Countryside Manor for their care of Jerry.

Was sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. We had many good times together in high school, riding around in his Studebaker, working on the railroad one summer and, of course, talking about girls. A good friend who I will always remember.
