John R. Matelko Jr., 90, of Sheboygan, passed away on August 4, 2024 at St. Nicholas Hospital with his family at his side. John was born on December 13, 1933 to the late Eleanor and John R. Matelko Sr. in Sheboygan. John graduated from Sheboygan North High School in the class of 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. After returning from the Navy, John played for the Sheboygan Redwings. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, playing golf and swimming at the senior center. John retired after nearly 30 years at Schreier Malting. In retirement he was an avid walker and was a familiar face to many people as he walked his routes throughout the city.
John is survived by his three children, LeeAnn (Steve) Reinfeldt, Mark (Janine) Matelko and Mary Jo (Dennis) Flipse; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, son Scott, three sisters and one brother.
Private entombment will take place at Lutheran Mausoleum.
