John Schmidt was born on June 9, 1941 and passed away on January 11, 2021 at the age of 79. He attended school at St. Dominic and graduated from Sheboygan North High School. John enlisted and proudly served in the United States Navy as an air traffic controller on the USS Independence. He was then united in marriage with Gloria Bergin on September 28, 1963 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. During his working years he was employed by the Kohler Company in quality control. He was an active member at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and enjoyed golfing, spending time at the cottage in Minocqua and musky fishing, traveling, day trading, washing his car and attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events.
John is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, April (Timothy) Reinemann, Dawn (James) Anderson and Timothy (Christine) Schmidt; grandchildren, Brittany (Ethan), Cole (McKenzie), Zavier, Tavian, Cayden, Joseph and Mary; great-grandchildren, Eden, Sawyer and Nora; siblings, Richard (June), Candice Schmidt and Dennis (Sue Jane) and brothers-in-law, Michael (Maryann) Bergin, Jeff Bergin, Mark (Geraldine) Bergin, Matthew Bergin and Scott Bergin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Laura Schmidt and father and mother-in-law Clarence and Grace Bergin.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 818 Huron Ave. Sheboygan, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Gloria would like to thank the ICU staff at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their care of John, her children for their support and to Fr. Matthew Widder for his prayers.
