Keith “Weif” J. Long

Feb 08, 1961 - Jul 14, 2020

Keith “Weif” J. Long, age 59, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice surrounded by his family after his battle with cancer. He was born in Manitowoc, WI on February 8, 1961 the son of Bruce Long and Lois Bishop Fleck.
He attended local schools and graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School. Weif started as a bus boy at Richards Fine Dining in Sheboygan Falls at a young age. He worked his way to head chef and later an owner of the restaurant. Weif later enjoyed a short time at Chester’s Drive Inn in Plymouth and ending as the “Mayor” of Festival Foods meat counter.
Weif was an avid Los Angeles Rams, Pink Floyd, and beloved KISS fan. Anywhere he went a new friendship emerged. If you got him going, the jokes would never end. Summers at the beach on Elkhart Lake were always enjoyed or just a nice drive around town. Weif will be missed by all that knew him, and this community is better because of him.
Survivors include his mother, Lois Fleck, of Sheboygan; father, Bruce (Sandy) Long, of Sheboygan Falls; seven siblings, Craig Long, Curt (Diane) Long, both of Sheboygan Falls, Ellen (Dan) Lueck, of Conover, WI, Tara (John) Albright, of Sheboygan Falls, Jodi (Todd) Hibma, of Kalamazoo, MI, Sue (Ed) Gilligan, of Howards Grove and Kevin (Melissa) Fleck, of Plymouth. I have been lucky to have known Weif for over 20 years. It all started when the wonderful Brownrigg family invited me to their often occurring family dinners at Richard's. It was the first time i had oysters Rockefeller and i was HOOKED. We had a great time, Weif came out and talked to the table. It seemed hospitality and pleasing people was in his blood. Later down the road I met him at Big Jimmy's. Still kind and could strike up a nice conversation. We started playing pool off and on when we happened to be there at the same time. We started shooting against each other and ended up shooting as a team. As we were both in the restaurant business, he and I and a ton of other people landed there after work often. As we both grew older and trips to Big Jimmy's became far and few i was so happy to see him at Festival. Funny enough...guess what i was buying? Oysters. He said, "You making' oysters rock?" I replied, "You know it!" I'm happy for the memories i have. I'm so saddened by the loss that the family and many, many friends are going through. May God be your strength. Keith affected so many lives in a positive way. He will definitely be missed.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the Long family. I was so very saddened to hear of Keith's passing. I have many fond memories of waiting on Weif at The Villager. He was a wonderful, kind, and funny man. Always a treat when he would visited his customers when he owned Richards. He always made sure to give a smile when working at Festival and strike up a conversation. What a friendly and loving person we will be missing. We love you Weif! You will be missed by so many.

Keith was such a joy at Festival. He was the kind of person that didn't just serve, but he knew what I typically ordered, how I wanted it, and asked about my family and 7 kids. He didn't mind that I commonly came right around close, and he had such a kind heart. I was so sad to see his name and death date at Festival's meat dept today. He will be so missed. What an impact he made! Festival won't be the same.

I’ve been blessed to know Keith for many years. I met him at Festival when I would visit my dad at work. Later I had the pleasure of working with him at Festival after joining the Festival Foods family. I loved when I got the opportunity to assist behind the meat counter while Keith was working. He was always smiling, always positive, an upbeat man who loved life. Regardless of how he was feeling he would always have a smile; very inspiring. Anyone blessed to know him, will always be better off from having known Keith. God’s peace is with Keith always!
