Larry W. Weidig, 78, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on April 8, 2024 surrounded by loving family members. Larry was born to Larry and Betty Weidig on September 10, 1945 in Ottawa, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1968 where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

He then went to work for Wisconsin Electric Power Company as an internal auditor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In August of 1968 he entered the US Navy and went to boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois. From there he went to Storekeepers School in Newport, Rhode Island. Next he went for counter-insurgency training in Norfolk, Virginia in preparation for deployment to Vietnam. After serving in Vietnam he reported to the USS Fulton in New London, Connecticut. It was a submarine tender ship. He was honorably discharged in July, 1972.

He returned to Wisconsin Electric Power Company for a brief period. An opportunity for a better job with First Wisconsin National Bank as manager of vouchers payable was taken. After a few years he was promoted to managing the Time and Methods Division. Although the bank was a great place to work, all of the higher positions in the Comptrollers Division were filled by young personnel who weren’t going away. So he took a CPA review class at UW-Milwaukee and subsequently passed the 3 day exam and was a Certified Public Accountant. Then with that credential in hand he looked for clients for whom he could do their accounting on the side. He purchased 6 of them from a firm that solicited them. Very shortly after that he interviewed at a bank in Madison, Wisconsin and received an offer that was a nice bump in salary. Since he would not leave his new clients high and dry he passed them on to a close friend who was also a very competent CPA, at no cost.

As the Comptroller at Commerce State Bank on the Capitol Square on State Street in Madison, Wisconsin, he was responsible for all of the bank’s accounting, payroll, and financial reports. One thing they failed to mention during interviews was that the bank was up for sale. Within a little over a year the sale took place and the purchasing bank brought in their own personnel. During his short tenure in Madison he took the realtors exam, passed, and established the Accommodation Realty Company. Fortunately, in a very short period of time, he interviewed with the board of directors and was offered the position of Comptroller and board member at Sheboygan Paint Company in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Responsibilities included accounting, payrolls, pensions, insurances, financial reports, union contracts, information technology and office management for Sheboygan Paint and three subsidiaries. He retired in 2001 due to health problems.

Larry was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ida Brady; grandfather, Leonard Weidig; father, Larry Weidig; mother, Elizabeth Weidig; stepfather, Bob Brimhall; sisters, Sandra Cully, Sharon (Ed) Marco, Debbie (Roy) Peters; grandson, Ryle Peaine; and various friends and relatives. Larry is survived by his wife, Jan Weidig; son, Larry (Shelly) Weidig; daughters, Paula (Brian) Guelig, Carrie (Eric) Peaine; grandchildren, Kaytlyn Weidig, Lawrence Jacob Weidig, Matthew (Jenny) Guelig, Kayla (Toby) Guelig, Bonnie Peaine, Meka Peaine, Jeremiah Peaine; great-grandchildren, Jannie Guelig, Zyla Reineking, Zion Peaine, Zoey Peaine, Noah Guelig and Faith Guelig. He is also survived by the world’s best brother-in-law, Michael (Eileen) Cully.

Larry enjoyed playing cards, frisbee golf, long hikes, traveling, gambling, coin and token collecting, Yahtzee, bible study, trying new foods and beverages, as well as watching NFL football and a wide variety of television shows.

He would like to be remembered as a faithful servant of the Lord, a loving husband, a loving father, a good friend, a patriotic citizen, a charitable donor, a hard worker, and someone who tried very hard to make the world a better place by his actions.

A funeral to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th St., Sheboygan with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 6706 Superior Avenue, Sheboygan with full military honors.
