Linda Mertes, 72, of Madison, peacefully passed away on May 20th, 2024. She was born on September 28th, 1951, to the late Jerome and Louise (Damrow) Mertes. Linda had a desire to help those in need and graduated from Madison Technical College with her RN license. For many years of her career, Linda was a nurse at Mendota Mental Health Institute, where she positively impacted countless lives. Linda’s love for her union brothers and sisters ran deep as she fought for fair treatment and rights for nurses. Linda lived for the thrill of discovering new places, cultures, and experiences and traveled often. She loved her friends at Camp Wawbeek, where she was both a camper and a counselor, creating many everlasting relationships. Linda spent many summers at Crooked Lake and the Wisconsin Dells with her family, developing many wonderful memories. She was a woman with determination and grit, overcoming many challenges throughout her life with nothing but grace and tenacity.
Linda is survived by her siblings: Allen (Shirley) Mertes of Canada, MaryLou (James) Trossen of Sheboygan Falls, and Brian Mertes of Random Lake. She is further survived by her niece Erika (Chuck) Fiestedt and her nephews Ryan Mertes, Jeremy (Malissa) Trossen, and Trevor Mertes. She is also survived by multiple great nieces and nephews, whom she loved deeply. Linda left behind countless cousins and numerous friends from all walks of life.
In true Linda fashion, a celebration of life will be held later this year. Please watch www.reinboldfh.com and social media for more details.
