Margaret H. Mason, age 97 of Sheboygan passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022. Margaret was born February 17, 1924, in Sanborn, WI to the late Joseph and Mary (Boehm) Vaillancourt. She had many fond memories of her childhood growing up on the family farm with her nine brothers and sisters. She was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Mason on April 19, 1952, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Iron River, Wisconsin; he preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1984. Margaret and her husband Dick owned and operated the Kroos-Mason Funeral Home in Sheboygan. She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Sheboygan and enjoyed being part of the church choir. She was a greeter at Walmart for 32 years until the age of 95 and greatly enjoyed interacting with customers and her co-workers. Margaret enjoyed music, sewing, playing cards and dominos with family and friends, and going to Las Vegas. Margaret was a good cook and baker; she loved having the family over for dinners and was known for her dinner rolls (better known as grandma’s buns!). She loved driving to northern Wisconsin to spend time with her extended family and continued to drive and live independently into her nineties. Margaret’s last car was a red Ford Mustang that she was very proud of.
Margaret is survived by her children: James (Karen) Mason of Sheboygan, William (Janine) Mason of Red Wing, MN, Margaret (Steve) Wage of Onalaska, WI, Elizabeth (Jim) Neubauer of Milwaukee, Patricia (John) Dikeman of Apple Valley, MN; ten grandchildren: Brenda (Joe) Walvoord, Andrea (Ross) Hutson, Kathryn Mason, Anthony Mason, Joey Mason, Lydia Mason, Cooper Wage, Rachael Neubauer, Henry Dikeman and Olivia Dikeman; four great-grandchildren Madelyn and Macalaster Walvoord and Greta and Grace Hutson.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick”; daughter Suzane; brothers: Joseph, Fred, William and Arthur; and sisters Josephine, Rose, Francis, Emma and Grace.
• • Out of town family are forever grateful to Margaret’s loving son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Karen Mason, for supporting her in her older years in her wish to stay in her own home as long as possible and throughout her transition to assisted living. The Mason family extends a special thank you to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, especially nurse Michelle, who facilitated the process of her final days. We would also like to thank Tricia and the staff at Pine Haven Assisted Living for their care over the past 2 and a half years.
