Marilyn Preussler, 92, of Sheboygan, passed away on May 13, 2026, at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice from complications of a fall at her home.
Marilyn was born on September 25, 1933, to Theodore and Emilie Henning. She attended local schools, graduated from Plymouth High School, and married Merlin Preussler on November 22, 1952. She worked for Hoekstra Bros. Chrysler/Plymouth/Imperial as a bookkeeper and secretary until the mid 1960s, when she became a homemaker and devoted herself to raising her family.
In 1985, after Merlin’s employer left the area, Marilyn returned to the workforce, joining her husband as indoor custodians at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church while also working evening cleaning jobs. Her dedication, long hours, and commitment to supporting her family—and caring for her own mother—left a lasting example for her sons. She retired in 2005 but maintained many friendships, especially those formed at the church. Following a major spinal surgery in 2008 and Merlin’s passing in 2010, Marilyn fought hard to remain independent in her home.
Family was central to Marilyn’s life, especially her sister Lorraine (Lorry) Schmidt, whose support helped her remain self-sufficient. Marilyn cherished visits from her nephews Michael, Jim, and Kevin (Kim) Schmidt, and niece Susan (Dave) Barela. Through her daughter-in-law Michelle, she gained a loving extended family and enjoyed her time with Michelle’s late mother, Barb Kohlbeck and her husband Mike. Michelle’s sisters Karen and Sue also made sure Marilyn was always welcome at their family and holiday gatherings.
Marilyn is survived by her sons Mark (Michelle) and Marvin, all of Sheboygan; her sister Lorry Schmidt; her nieces and nephews; and Mike Kohlbeck of Manitowoc. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Merlin, brother-in-law Donald Schmidt, sister-in-law Narda Olson, and Barb Kohlbeck of Manitowoc.
A visitation will be held at Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th St., on Friday, May 22nd beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Jim Schulz. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The family extends heartfelt thanks to her friends and to the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for their care.
