Mary Sue Torrison

Apr 21, 1948 - Oct 11, 2022

Mary Sue Torrison, age 74, passed away at home in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin on October 11, 2022.

Mary was born on April 21, 1948 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Mary Grace and Gustave Torrison. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School in Clarks Mills and graduated from Valders High School in 1966. She then attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and earned a degree in Communication Science and Disorders. Mary spent her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist for the Sheboygan Public Schools. During retirement, she remained committed to young students and volunteered as a classroom aide for as long as she could. On July 12, 1980 Mary married Otto (Skip) Grunow in Sheboygan Falls, WI. They spent their 42-year marriage living happily in Sheboygan Falls with the Sheboygan River in their backyard. Mary and Skip were incredibly devoted to one another and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company. As Mary endured more health challenges in recent years, she could always count on Skip, who remained a vigilant, caring partner constantly looking out for her.

Throughout her 74 years, Mary enjoyed crafts, reading, going for walks, gardening in her yard, watching and discussing the Packers and the Brewers and providing exceptional care to her beloved cats. She was very devoted to her family and looked forward to opportunities to be together with them. Mary loved traveling with Skip and in the last few years enjoyed seeing the country in their motorhome. Mary was determined, strong and never gave up. She will be dearly missed by her family.

Mary is survived by her husband Otto (Skip) Grunow; siblings Daniel (Beth) Torrison and Kay (Robert) Lange; nieces: Annika Lange (Derek Metzger), Erika Torrison (Chad Knothe), Brittany (Billy) Allestad and Lori Pungarcher; nephew: John Pungarcher; along with grandnieces and grandnephews as well as other members of her extended family. Mary is also survived by and will be missed by her cat, Oliver.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Mary Grace and Gustave Torrison; father-in-law: Otto Grunow Sr.; mother-in-law: Elaine Grunow; and sister-in-law: Sandy Pungarcher; cat family members: Tina, Sonya, Linnea, Thor, Max, Teddy, Annie Mae, Rocky and Timmy.

Mary never liked being the center of attention and per her wishes there will be no services.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family through the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home website.

Memorials in her name can be made to the Sheboygan County Humane Society.
