Michael P. Murphy, age 84, passed away on September 26, 2021 in the arms of his loving wife, Joan, and was welcomed into heaven by his daughter, Julianne.

Formerly of Oak Forest, IL, Mike and his wife relocated to Sheboygan, WI in 2016 to be near those they loved the most. He was truly a loving dad to Christopher and a proud and caring PopPop to Benjamin, Riley, Elizabeth, Zoe, Hannah, William and Owen.

After early retirement from Commonwealth Edison, Mike was determined to pursue only what brought joy to his life. He could be found sitting in the backyard gazebo reading a good book, enjoying a vodka on the rocks (only with anchovy olives) and an occasional cigar. He excelled at being a handyman and could accomplish (although sometimes reluctantly) any project Joan came up with.

An avid bowler most of his life, in 2003 Mike was offered the opportunity to become the first Head Coach of the V.J. Andrew High School boys bowling team. Under Mike’s direction his personal “Dream Team” won back-to-back state championships in 2005 and 2006 and continues to hold a team record for the State Finals. This highlight of his life could only be surpassed by his induction into the V.J. Andrew Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.

As the youngest in a family of seven, Mike provided both joy and frustration to his siblings. Growing up, his refusal to do his paper route meant an extra chore for an older sister and as an adult his recollection of childhood events could invoke friendly disagreements. In later years, Mike remained close to his sisters, MaryAnne Suerth and Kathleen Dahl and his many nieces and nephews can recall fond memories. His soul now joins those of his brothers and sisters, Patricia Byrnes, Lorraine Kaferly, John and Richard,

Husband, father, grandfather, uncle, coach, friend… he will be missed by all..

Family and friends are invited to meet Saturday, October 23rd for 10:30 a.m. Memorial Mass at St. Damian Church, 5250 155th St, Oak Forest, IL. Interment private. For those who wish, donations to the Julianne Murphy Nursing Scholarship, Lewis University, 1 University Parkway, Romeoville, IL 60446, would be greatly appreciated.
