Pat Nierode

Pat Nierode, of Sheboygan, died at the age of 98. Pat was born on December 3, 1922, the daughter of Gus and Martha Rosenow. She was united in marriage to Fred Nierode of Grafton, WI on June 9, 1951. Pat and Fred were the parents of six sons.
Pat graduated from Niagara, WI High School in June of 1940. She then attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison for a short time prior to enlisting in the U. S. Marine Corps. Following honorable discharge from the Marines in 1946, she returned to the University graduating in June of 1949 with a B.S degree in social work. She then obtained employment as a social worker for the county of Marinette where she remained until her marriage to Fred.
Following marriage, Pat was very actively involved in the raising, education, and activities of her sons and grandchildren in a loving and fun filled manner. One of their favorite activities was the making of cookies at Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, and Christmas. Pat also found time to participate and contribute to many local, state and national organizations. One of her many favorite charities was The Nature Conservancy. She was also an active member of the Wisconsin Chapter of the Women Marines Association and the American Association of University Women (AAUW), of which she was a member for 50 years.
Prior to her retirement on June 30, 1988, Pat was employed for 16 years as school social worker for the Sheboygan Area School District. In addition to carrying out the various problems that students, parents and teachers have, Pat was an integral part of child find screening and the development of early childhood classes at the Early Learning Center, the Latch Key program, and the identification of ED in preschool children.
In retirement, Pat and Fred were especially active in ballroom dancing to the Big Bands of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, etc., traveling throughout the Midwest.
Pat is survived by her five sons Kevin of Como, CO, Craig (Elena) of Glen Allen, VA, Scott of Green Bay; Bruce (Susie) of Sheboygan, and Kurt (Annette) of Gleason, WI. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren Laura, Gregory, Amanda, Alexandra, Kimberlee and Sheila and many cousins, nephews and nieces. Pat was preceded in death by her husband; mother and father; son Stephan; brother Donald, and sisters Marion, Eunice and Carol.
Private services will be held by Pat’s family. Pat’s final resting place will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at www.reinboldfh.com. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to AAUW Sheboygan Foundation, Wisconsin Ice Age Trail, Sheboygan St. Vincent De Paul or other.
