Rudolph S. “Rudy” Maurin, 91 of Sheboygan, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Sheboygan Progressive Health Services. Rudolph was born to the late Rudolph and Neza (Sterk) Maurin on July 24, 1932 in Slovenia. Much of Rudy’s formal education took place in Slovenia, and he furthered his education and mastered many crafts in trade schools while in Europe which later evolved into leading others as an instructor. Rudy migrated to the United States in 1956 and started working at American Chair where he contributed to the design and production of custom and hand-crafted chairs during the height of their existence. He would then move on to Kohler Company where he became a major asset by using his analytical skills and creativity to improve products in their bathroom and engine departments over the next three decades.
On October 22, 1960, Rudy was united in marriage to Janet Hoepner in Theresa, WI. Rudy’s love of music was instrumental in the formation of the well-known family Polka group, The 4M’s. The group traveled all over Wisconsin during the 70’s and 80’s performing at weddings, picnics, festivals and many other community events. Highlights included a TV performance on Channel 12 Dialing for Dollars, Sheboygan downtown Plaza dedication, Ss Cyril’s Hank Aaron Day and numerous radio appearances.
Rudy was a talented man who designed, renovated and build several family homes and did not hesitate to share his abilities to help others in need. His love of music lead to building and repairing musical instruments for many musicians both near and far. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Accordion Club. Rudy was a generous person, always giving to others, and he will be missed by the many that knew him.
He is survived by his sons, John (Lynn) Maurin and Paul (Tina) Maurin; longtime companion of 35 years, Cheryl Aschenbach; grandchildren, Trevor, Tiana (fiancé Kristofer), Austin, Justin, Kendra (Jordan), Clayton and Claire; his beloved cat, Rosco as well as other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings in Yugoslavia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 818 Huron Ave., Sheboygan, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Greendale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Jude in Rudy’s name. Condolences may be expressed online at www.reinboldfh.com.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Sheboygan Progressive Health Services for their wonderful care and to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Dear John and Paul, We're sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy at this difficult time. We remember the good times we had as neighbors on Van Treeck Trail ( and dancing polkas to the music of The 4 M's). We hope that you both and your families are doing well! Bob & Marilyn Schneider

The 4M’s played at our wedding reception 38 years ago at the Grand Executive Inn. They put on a good show and we remember doing the “worm” on the dance floor. Polka bands at wedding receptions are pretty much a thing of the past, but Rudy’s passing brought back a smile of days gone by. Hold on to such memories in the days ahead. We are sorry for the loss of your father.
