Russell “Russ” Wiverstad

On Thursday, July 21, 2022, Russell “Russ” Wiverstad, loving husband and father of four children, passed away at the age of 88.

Russ was born on October 11, 1933 in Madison, Wisconsin. He received his bachelor’s degree in Food Science from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1960. He worked for Oscar Mayer for 30 years. After he retired he worked for Johnsonville Sausage, did private consulting and also taught Business at Lakeland University.

On June 30, 1956, Russ married Joan Purma. They raised one daughter, Karen, and three sons, Steve, Jim and Eric. He has six grandchildren, Jamie, Jeremy, Tim, Eva, Joanna and Jessica, and three great-grandchildren, Ayiana, Ashlyn and Olivia.

Russ enjoyed the outdoors and spent time fishing, camping and gardening, and was passionate about playing bridge with his wife, Joan. He was an avid sports fan who followed golf, the Wisconsin Badgers (his alma mater) and the Green Bay Packers. Russ served in the U.S. Army. He liked playing country western music on the guitar and flying a Piper Tomahawk airplane.

He was known for his outgoing personality, quick wit and his kind and compassionate spirit. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held from 1 o’clock on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at First United Lutheran Church at 2401 Kohler Memorial Drive, Sheboygan, until 2 o’clock when the funeral service will be held. Condolences may be expressed online at www.reinboldfh.com.
