Ruth J. Behrens, age 91, of Sheboygan, died on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at the Shores of Sheboygan. She was born in Sheboygan on November 25, 1931, to the late Henry and Anna Szubic Horn.
Ruth attended local schools and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1950. On November 19, 1951, she was united in marriage to James L. Behrens in Dubuque, Iowa. She was employed at Wigwam Mills, Queens Way to Fashion for 20 years, and the Fashion Bug, until her retirement in 1986.
Ruth was a current member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines and making handcrafted jewelry.
Survivors include her husband, James L. Behrens; children, Jeffrey (Laura) Behrens, Kathrine (Gregory) Pouliot, Judith (Terence) Knier, and Thomas (Terri) Behrens; grandchildren, Matthew (Sherrah) Behrens, Mamie (special friend Shawn Theis) Behrens, Tanya (Christian) Pernat, Renee Pouliot, Robert (Jessica) Pouliot, Rachel (Joshua) Pyne, Kayla (John) Schmitz, Kevin (Elizabeth) Knier, Danielle (Marcus) Kruse, Tanner (special friend Cassie Holden) Behrens, McCormick Behrens; great-grandchildren, James R. Behrens, Lucy Behrens, Fletcher Pernat, Fern Pernat, Bailey Sippel, Taylor Sippel, Weston Pouliot, Wade Pouliot, Addilyn Cavanaugh, Deklen Schmitz, Blate Schmitz, Levi Kruse, Jacek Kruse, Jameson Kruse, Ella Behrens, Quentin Knier, Kendrick Knier, Cameron Knier, Arnold Pyne and twins, Cora and Evie Pyne; and her nieces, Ruth (Arthur) Perry, and Bernice (Frank) Walter. Many other relatives and friends further survive her. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, nine sisters, Anna, Emma, Emilia, Maria, Amalia, Sophie, Hilde, Beth, and Evelyna, and her three brothers, Christian, Henry, and George.
A memorial service for Ruth will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1121 Georgia Ave. Sheboygan, with Rev. Patrick Niles officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. A private burial service for the family will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruth’s name may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
