Sim E. Safford, 60, of Sheboygan, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 13, 2022 after long term health issues. Sim was born in Upper Michigan to the late Thomas and Georgianna Safford and grew up in Rapid River. He graduated from Rapid River High School and continued his education at Lakeland College where he earned four bachelor’s degrees and eventually his Master’s in Education. While in college he worked for New York Life Insurance and for Orkin but found his passion as a teacher and coach at South High School. Sim was an outstanding father to his two daughters which were raised in Kohler, where Sim resided for 20 years of his life. As a part of the Mighty Hunters of Mahskeekee Lake, Sim was an avid hunter, fisherman, and had a passion for the outdoors. He also loved golfing and coached several other school sports as well as being famously known for announcing at many of South High School’s sporting events. He will always be remembered as the caring man who would give you his shirt off his back, as the man with the repeated (yet somehow always just as funny) stories, and as the man who always could be counted on to make you smile.
Sim is survived by his daughters, Rachel and Maria Safford and their mother Martha Safford Meyer; sisters, Cindy (Pete) Brock, Jenny Safford and Susan Safford Gaul (Mike Safford Kennedy); sisters-in-law, Kris Safford and Alice Samuel and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas, Klint and Daniel “Duke” Safford and sister-in-law, Dale Safford.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the Blue Harbor Conference Center, 725 Blue Harbor Drive, Sheboygan, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 4:00 p.m. Condolences may expressed online at www.reinboldfh.com. A memorial fund is being established in his name.
The family would like to express a special thank you to all the South High School students and faculty for their support.

Mr. Stafford was an amazing teacher. Everyday we would all walk down the halls and hear music and it was always mr. Staffods room and he was always jamming out. He was an amazing person and always made your days better no matter how bad your day was. You could go to him about anything and he would just listen and try to help. My senior year we were all sad that we wouldn’t have him as a teacher anymore and he would always tell me you can always come back and visit me I’ll always be here. Sim stafford will always be missed. I’m sorry for your loss. He will be dearly missed

Sim and I came into lakeland the same year, we played football together over those 4 years. During that time Sim was a great friend and teammate. We also played on the Golf Team together and I remember Sim coming around to all the golfers rooms the morning of a match and dragging us out of bed and into the van (which he always drove). Rest in Peace Sim, my sincerest condolences to Sim's family.

I really don't know him but I see that he was a man that showed that teachers can have fun and make students look up to him and shows he wants to help.

Sim was our youngest Safford cousin who we loved so much. As a young boy he was always doing things to make us laugh. He brought joy. Whenever I saw Sim at the Safford events I could attend, he always took time to chat and get caught up. He brought his welcoming heart. At every opportunity, Sim would tell me about his beloved daughters, Rachel and Maria. He was a very loving and proud parent. With heartfelt thanks to God for blessing all of us with this wonderful man, my cousin Sim, his warm joyous, welcoming, loving smile will be in my heart forever. love and prayers, Mollie

I am sad to learn of the passing of Sim. I am his cousin from Jackson, Mich. Although we have not seen each other for eons, I do remember the good times we spent in Rapid River and Escanaba going to the Dairy Freeze and to the fair. Sim's mother, my Aunt Georgie, always had a warm atmosphere in her home as Sim and the rest of the Safford clan gathered together in her home for family doings. On behalf of my family, we will miss Sim dearly. May God accept his soul as Sim is now in the company with our Lord, Jesus Christ. Rest in eternal peace, Sim. We love you.

Alice Safford/Samuel

I met Sim when he was in the 4th grade as I was dating his older brother Tom. So we go way back!!! He always had such a charming sense of humor and a glint of fun mischief in his brown sparkly eyes!!! He always made us laugh and was soooo much fun to be around!!! He would break into song and do Rodney Dangerfield impersonations which were hysterical!!! He and his brothers Tom, Klint, Duke and beloved brother- in-law Pete Brock, spent wonderful times at our home involved in golf tournaments. The Solberg and Paquette families were always part of the mix, too!!! I loved all of their teasing camaraderie!!! I love you Sim and are so grateful you are a believer in Jesus Christ and I have full assurance that you are in heaven with all your brothers and your Mom and Dad!!! I sure am saddened by your home going, as I am going to miss you ever so much !!!!! LOVE YOU FOREVER!!! Alice Marie Safford/Samuel

Condolences to the family who lost a wonderful man. You always put a smile on my face when I would see you. We met when you and your family came to Ponderosa, and even made a song about me, will never forget that. I am going to miss seeing you when I go to grandsons sport games at South. You are never going to be forgotten, you were loved by many people. Rip, until we meet again.

Sim was in a few of my English classes while he was in high school. Also, he was on the golf team at Rapid River High School when I was the coach. Without a doubt, Sim was one of the most likable students I ever had the privilege of knowing and teaching, God bless.

Jamie S Berlin
