Stephen “Steve” Lee Renzelmann, 75, of Sheboygan, WI, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, Oct. 15 after a brief illness. Steve was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, teacher and coach, and he will be missed by many.
Steve was born on Feb. 1, 1948, to Paul and Kathryn Renzelmann in Sheboygan where he was raised with his 10 brothers and sisters. Growing up, he was a devout Catholic and passionate athlete in a variety of sports, including football, baseball, and basketball – all of which he would go on to coach later in life at the middle school and high school levels.
Steve graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1966 and went on to earn an education degree from Sheboygan County Teachers College. Soon after, he began his first job at Holy Name School, kickstarting a 41-year career as a teacher – a calling that he cherished, leaving a mark on generations of students and fellow teachers in the city. He would go on to obtain his Master’s degree in education at the age of 50 from Cardinal Stritch University.
In 1988, Steve married his wife, Karen Miskowicz, mother of his sons, Markus and Davis. Previously, he was married to Nancy Hermann in 1972, mother of his first son, Jason. He was a devoted husband and father but was also dedicated to a life of giving back, spending a number of years doing charitable work through the St. Vincent De Paul Society of Sheboygan which he would eventually lead as President.
In 2011, Steve retired, allowing him to spend more time with his beloved dog, Webster, and his family. In the same year, he became a grandfather to Alex Renzelmann, son of Jason and his wife, Jill Perry. Alex would give him his last, and possibly favorite, nickname in life, “Pop-pop,” and brought him immense joy in his later years.
Steve was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, and his son, Markus. He is survived by his wife, Karen; son, Davis; son, Jason; daughter-in-law, Jill; grandson, Alex; daughter-in-law, Emily Renzelmann; his siblings, Therese Hardy, Celine Towler, Patrick Renzelmann and Paul Renzelmann; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 818 Huron Ave., Sheboygan, on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023 with visitation from 11:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 1:00 p.m. The family encourages those considering monetary contributions to do so in the form of a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Dementia Society of America.
