Steven James Erbstoesser, age 72, passed unexpectedly on Monday November 10, 2025, at St. Nicholas Hospital. Born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, he had been in a successful battle with cancer for the last six months. It was without warning that he would be taken from us due to a massive cardiac event, coupled with a broken heart after his brother Dan’s death just seven weeks ago. He faced recent challenges with grace, humor and unwavering optimism. His zest for life never waned.
Steve was born on April 23, 1953, to Daniel and Amelia (Redling) Erbstoesser.
The fourth child born into a family of six children, he was surrounded with a loving, nurturing, and supportive family. Steven was a treasured son, brother, uncle and friend who had an innate ability to connect with others with his affable nature, big heart, quick wit, and fast smile. Making everyone feel welcome. His presence radiated joy, genuine kindness, and a positive energy that shone in every encounter.
Steve attended area schools, graduating from Immaculate Conception Grade School in 1967, and from South High School in 1971. He possessed a strong work ethic and was dependable and trustworthy. He loved his hometown and never imagined living anywhere else!
Being naturally athletic, Steve excelled in high school sports where he lettered in football, wrestling and track. He was a longtime member of the YMCA, where he pushed through weightlifting, swimming and general workouts to continue his quest to keep fit.
Steve also enjoyed cycling, kayaking, skiing, and just about anything that involved the great outdoors. As a sport enthusiast, he could be found cheering on his Wisconsin teams all year long, often with a beer and brat in hand.
An avid reader, Steve loved history and liked the challenge of a good daily crossword.
He possessed an exceptional memory and was an eloquent conversationalist. Always eager to listen, learn, or share knowledge through anecdotes and countless stories, Steve often reminisced with family and old friends to acknowledge the privilege of a shared life.
These relationships forged the cornerstone of an essential solid foundation in Steve’s life by infusing purpose, integrity, and stability; alongside delight, comfort, and support of one another. He embraced the simple pleasures in life, where deep and lasting friendships and valued connections were cultivated. His deepest bond was with his brother Daniel, whom he protected and cared for with love and compassion.
Steven is survived by his sisters: Marianna (William) Parramore of Windermere, Florida, Leandra (Jack) Walters of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Donna (Bill) Borzyskowski, Sheboygan, WI. Also surviving are six nephews and one niece. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Daniel John and sister JoanEllen, and a most special niece Danielle Lee.
Our hearts are once again broken as Steve leaves behind a legacy of adventure, laughter, and commitment to his family and friends. He will be remembered with deep affection as we reflect on the life he lived and the love he gave so freely. His family would especially like to recognize his longtime friends; Rick, Ralph, Pat, and Jerry for their steadfast loyalty and support. Very special thanks to the Sheboygan Fire Department for their valiant efforts and commitment to their profession.
