Terry W. Kath, 91, passed away late Thursday at The Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. He was born in Sheboygan, a son of the late Walter and Elvira (Wolfgram) Kath. He graduated from Central High School in 1952, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Stage Crew, Performing in Plays, Track, Social Committee, Debate & Forensics. A Korean War Era Veteran serving overseas in Germany. Receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Lakeland College in 1959.
On September 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to his High School sweetheart, Marlene F. Bord, they were married for 64 years until her passing in 2020.
Terry was employed by several employers, Northwestern Mutual a Life Insurance Company, twenty years as Controller at The C. Reiss Coal Company until they closed and retired from The Sheboygan Glass Company. Terry was self-employed in the fields of Business Consultation, Real Estate Broker and General Contractor.
Terry was elected to the Sheboygan Common Council in 1961, re-elected in 1963 and elected in 1997. Candidate for Mayor in 1965. He enjoyed talking politics and making a difference for his constituents.
Terry was elected to the Sheboygan Area School District in the 1980’s. He was a longtime Volunteer and Activist for programs for children with special needs. He was a Board Member of the Opportunity Center (Currently R.C.S.) and longtime President of Sheboygan County Association for Children with Learning Disabilities.
Terry loved the Theatre, beginning as a teenager with a role in “Of Thee I Sing” in 1950. In 1996, he was Honored with a “Life Membership” in the Sheboygan Theatre Company for over forty years of service. Recognized specifically for his work as chairman of the Long-Range Planning Committee and over the years being active behind the scenes and appearing on stage.
Terry was very active in The Sheboygan Jaycees. He co-produced and directed their first indoor “Miss Sheboygan Pageant” and the Bratwurst revival called “German Days” at Kiwanis Park as well as the Publicity Chairman with cooperation of all the Local Media.
Terry served on the Council of First United Lutheran Church and was active in member groups and committees.
Survivors include his children, Julie Kath, Kelly Cvetan (James Lederer), Brian (Kristine) Kath. Grandchildren, Kathy (Scott) Gosciniak of Texas, Lucus and Nicholas Kath of Sheboygan. Great-grandchildren, Avery and Eva Gosciniak. Terry’s good friend George Dippold, Evie Wilterdink. He was proceeded in death by his son, Kevin Kath.
A private family memorial and his final resting place will be in the Columbarium at First United Lutheran Church.
The Kath family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Sharon Richardson Community Hospice, the staff at Harvest Home in Howards Grove, and the staff at Dr. Hemsing’s office, for their help and compassion to Terry and his family.
